Great BA Premium & Business Award Availability to Singapore

Would you like to take your family to Singapore in style using Qantas points? British Airways currently has up to six reward seats available in both Premium Economy and Business Class on many flights between Sydney and Singapore.

These seats are available to book not only with British Airways Avios, but also with points in other Oneworld airline programs including Qantas Frequent Flyer. You can travel on many dates across the next year.

There’s particularly good availability from Sydney to Singapore between August-November 2023 and February-March 2024. In the other direction, from Singapore to Sydney, British Airways has good award availability over the next few weeks, from November-December 2023 and in February-March 2024.

It costs 59,000 Qantas points for a one-way British Airways Premium Economy reward seat from Sydney to Singapore, or 75,000 Qantas points for Business Class, plus taxes & carrier charges.

Unfortunately, British Airways passes on relatively high fuel surcharges. For a return British Airways Business Class redemption from Sydney to Singapore, you could expect to pay 150,000 Qantas points and around $701 in taxes & carrier charges. But you’ll still pay far less overall than you would buying a commercial ticket!

If you have points with a credit card rewards program that you can transfer to Cathay, you can also book these seats using Asia Miles (and pay fewer points overall).

Oneworld member British Airways flies daily from Sydney to London via Singapore. Unfortunately, there’s much less Business Class award availability on the Singapore-London leg of the journey. But there is a smattering of Premium Economy award availability on various dates for the whole flight between Sydney and London.

British Airways also offers First Class on flights BA15 and BA16. But we couldn’t find any First Class award seats available to book using Qantas points on any travel dates within the next year.

British Airways guarantees that it will release at least two Premium Economy and four Business Class reward seats on all flights to and from London’s Heathrow and Gatwick Airports. But the current award availability on the Sydney-Singapore route far exceeds this. British Airways also tends to release more award seats closer to the departure date on undersold flights.

What’s British Airways Premium Economy & Business Class like?

British Airways markets its Premium Economy cabin as “World Traveller Plus”. In World Traveller Plus, you can expect to get a wide recliner seat with more legroom than Economy. You’ll also get better service on board than Economy, including better food and drinks.

British Airways has two different types of Business Class products. The one you get will depend on the time of year that you travel.

Between April and October, British Airways flies a Boeing 787-9 to Sydney with the older-style “Club World” Business Class seating. These seats are in a 2-3-2 layout, with every second seat facing the opposite direction. It’s sometimes known as a “ying and yang” layout.

This product offers less privacy and storage space than the newer product, although the lie-flat bed is very comfortable.

From November until March, British Airways flies a Boeing 777-300ER to Sydney with the newer and much better “Club Suites” Business Class product. This product offers direct aisle access from every seat, and a lot more space and privacy.

Note that British Airways charges for advance seat selection, even if you have a Premium Economy or Business Class ticket. There’s an exception for passengers with British Airways or Oneworld status, including Qantas Gold and Platinum members, who can select a seat in advance at no cost.

I was going to post something about that. I have SYD-MNL J seats with QF booked in March and by pure coincidence I was looking at redemptions on the weekend and found SYD-SIN now available on BA. Needless to say I booked those and have canceled the SYD-MNL flight.
I’d been looking for SYD-SIN for some time so happy to finally see some availability. Carrier charges nearly double but that’s fine

When the +++ including YQ is approaching that of a discount economy fare, it makes it tough.

If you have Points Club, it may be worth paying the extra YQ to book these over a QF flight.

I thought CX was a method for redeeming BA flights for far less in surcharges, but from the article it appears CX are charging the same amount in surcharges as QF. Is the CX method only beneficial on certain routes?

I think CX has lower charges in Premium Economy.

I find it strange, because on some routes CX is very much a sweet spot in J on the surcharge front:

EG JFK-LHR in J
80K Avios + AUD1330
61K Cathay + AUD376
61.2K Qantas + AUD877

Why?

Is the earning of SCs on BA award flights consistent across the board if you are Points Club?

Many years ago (and well before Points Club was a thing), I earned QF points and status credits on a SYD-SIN BA flight in F which was an AA reward booking. However, just before COVID, I did not earn points and status credits on the same flight (however, was instead an IB reward booking).

It’s nothing to do with points Club.
From time to time Award tickets, upgrades, re-booked cancelled Award tickets and IRROPS etc on various airlines including BA end up crediting as paid fares.

If it happens it’s a bonus 🤩

Fair enough. I was just asking why the original post from encryptededdy made the point that it was relevant if a traveller was in Points Club. Which seems to be different from what you are suggesting

I certainly hope so!

I have a flight from LHR to SIN next month in PE (BA11) and have been checking literally daily for any new reward seats considering it will cost no more points (just taxes and a points change fee) if there are any new business reward seats.

My current 318k OWA itinerary includes the above flight, and has been re-calculated to 318k due to all other flights being in business, hence the keen-ness of getting a business reward seat if available.

I'm not a fan of the 2-4-2 and 2-3-2 business class layout, but it should be better than PE - also considering there are no more 2 x side-by-side seats on the side sections (ie. someone has taken the window seat, either by paying BAs ridiculous seat selection fee (AUD$120+!) or some other method).

This means both my partner and I will now have to sit next to another random passenger which was of course wanted to avoid, but wasn't willing to pony up another AUD$250 just to select seats.

At the moment there's not even any economy reward seats available on the day I need.

I've also been checking seats.aero daily too, all without success.

Here's to hoping BA release some more award seats in the next few weeks. I can then finally have a full business OWA!
