Australian Reports of the Virus Spread

So far the only thing I have heard mentioned is that most Victorian (and hence NSW most likely too) spring from one or two sources from the hotel security guards and that this is known from the genomic sequencing. The people they caught it from have not been mentioned, but no doubt those doing the genomonic sequencing , and by now the key staff at the various public health authorities, will have a good idea of the country or countries it came from.

However in the publicly available information I have seen naught on it. Also I have not seen any clarification as to whether the two hotels that infection spring from had security guards at one infecting the other, or whether each had there own patient zero (if so they it may have come from two different countries).

At the likely time of patient zero there would have been travellers from many countries passing through the hotels. By then Australian Indian Residents were returning en masse and there were also repatriation flights from South America. Plus a smattering from all over.

So which mutation we have would be interesting to know, but it could have come from many countries. and indeed continents.

The Doherty Institute have already done the research on the genomic sequencing of the cases from the hotels but that report is in the Terms of Reference for Dan's Public Inquiry so can not be released publicly.

And the three Vics who lied their way into South Australia at the Riverland yesterday by saying one of them needed medical treatment (why the police didnt send them to Mildura hospital beggars belief - all he had was an injured ankle) have been caught and in metro Adelaide and are now in jail awaiting court.

It's certainly looking that way. I can't see St. Marko lifting the boom gate until everything on the other side is clear by several weeks.

Yes they do all the genomic sequencing in Victoria.

But more and more people will be in the know now as they need to be.

What is it about the pattern of NSW infections that makes everyone more worried than what is happening in Victoria? Is it just that the one man infected so many others who then dispersed?

Also because early on in Sydney there is so many unknown sources of transmission, they are taking so long to figure out who, where, when and the geographic spread of where people are getting picked up is HUGE....

We are looking things that are 7-10 days on and the transmission is occurring in very very public places which means downstream there is almost guaranteed more cases and places of transmission.

You and your employer should work together to identify if you can work from home. Workers can raise concerns about being asked to return to work through the Police Assistance Line (PAL) on 131 444. If a complaint is made, the employer would need to show that the employee cannot work remotely.

I suspect the main problem is that the law is small field, and once you're known for 'being difficult' then it would be virtually impossible to ever get another job inthe legal field.

I mean, look at what happened to the women who were allegedly sexually abused by a now retired High Court judge.

Sydneysiders ignore NSW Health warnings to avoid crowds

Potential for escalation in NSW amid social distancing complacency

NSW faces a greater risk of a second COVID-19 wave than Victoria, with experts warning lax social distancing had exposed Sydney to another lockdown and a compulsory order to wear masks.

James McCaw, the epidemiologist tracking the pandemic’s spread for federal and state governments, warned more extreme measures could be necessary as people had been moving more freely than Victoria and ignoring social distancing.

Professor McCaw likened the Crossroads Hotel cluster in south-west Sydney to the breakdown in hotel quarantine in Melbourne – a single seeding event that could start another wave.
