AFF - sometimes a bit 'blokey'!

Yes, anat0l - SWMBO is an example of what I meant by 'blokey'.

I think it is idiosyncratic of males to use "blokey" lanruage and similar for females...I'm sure if we checked female-dominated wbsites (fashion, makeup etc) it would have a similar "girly" language (well, plus the specific IT, generation blends as well).

I note that straitman poses the question, "Who really cares" .

He's getting a little old and less accepting/tolerant these days (he knows me well enough to know I have my tongue firmly in my cheek in saying this).

I suppose I don't care either, I was simply stating that I had noticed this trait and it had got me wondering about the ratio of male to female. The icon posted next to the thread title should have been a bit of a clue that this was supposed to be simply a lighthearted conversation starter.

Indeed, correct usage can convey the right message...but the emoticon is lost once somebody starts bringing emotion into the debate.

Maybe not so much of a furore of the poster is indeed male - the HWMBO acronym is probably as accurate for some of the AFF community as the SWMBO acronym.

I think this reflects just the relative numbers of male vs female traveller - 99% of the time I am sat next to a bloke not a woman. Couple that with the number of women that would be interested in online frequent flyer forums and I would expect there to be a much higher proportion of men than women on AFF.

Now Twilight forums would be a different kettle of fishwives...

No chance you will get HWMBO when a simple DH will suffice, one wonders how much pun is in the darling part at times though! I suspect if FF is too blokey then one should wander over to essential baby to see the opposite!

When SWMBO asks you for advice then says your wrong because it says on essential baby you are wrong and shows you the forum you tend to get some knowledge pretty quickly, rightly or wrongly

Here's my "blokey" contribution to the forum for the day:

The toughest questions that a man has to answer (to any female, be they related or not):

• "Which dress should I wear - the gold one or the blue one?"
• "Does this dress make my bottom look big?"

I loathe to put the question "Do you love me?" in there, but I've heard that that is also a difficult question for many men to answer.

Now for any women on the board (or even married men), how do you answer those questions without getting your head bitten off?

I'm no expert & should probably check with DH to see what's in his book, but I'd go with the most flattering colour & appropriate for the event (depending on personality, but gold perhaps would not be the colour for a day in the office or a wedding). By flattering - what colour makes her look better? Eyes, skin, hair more alive and happy? Or, which dress she just loves.
and her bottom NEVER looks big.
I won't go near "do you love me?". It just screams insecure (& young?) to me, but that's coming from being with DH for 14 years.
