$29 dollar tickets

I managed to get 3 Sydney - Gold Coast at $29.00 and 3 Gold Coast to Sydney @ 69 .00 with Jet Star for the last week of June (my son's school holidays).

Virgin's rates are still over $100.00 despite their claims to match Jet Star offer.

The $29 fares include all taxes. The only addition to pay is the credit card surcharge, but I have read somewhere that someone paid with something other than a credit card.

You can elect to pay by direct credit - the booking system will give you JQ's BSB and account number, and you need to transfer the funds across the same day, using the RLOC as the reference. They will hold the booking until the close of business on the second business day after you make the booking, so if, for example, you book on a Thursday before 1700 they will hold it until 1700 on the Monday - if you do the transfer the same day it should be there by the Friday, but they allow the extra day just in case.

That's right. $29.00 included the taxes (I think the taxes are $28.20).
I think they charged a credit card fee per transaction - not per ticket. I will check and let you know.

They have charged me $10 fee for the whole transaction. I am not sure how they based it. I really don't mind as I managed to get the $29 ticket anyway.

I've scored the $29 deal for return weekend in SYD from AVV.

Now how could any serious Frequent Flyer pass up the opportunity to add another airport to their list? :wink:

I live about 15-20mins from Tullamarine, and about 40mins from Avalon. When travelling for work I get a taxi or park in short term -hence would not consider AVV for work travel.

When on personal travel it is the long term car park, and the last two times I've used the long term, I've haven't found my usual spot (near the front corner) and have drive around looking for a car park down the back, and waited for a shuttle bus (up to 15mins!). Realistically you have to allow 20mins to be "safe" with that whole process, so if AVV have their sh#t together with parking, the 20 mins extra driving is neither here nor there for me. The lack of a QC & FF points is though!

You've also got to consider the 200,000+ people who live in Geelong & the Bellarine Peninsula (as well as a substantial population in Werribee - who Jetstar are probably targetting), and the proximity to the Great Ocean Road, and I can see this airport working.

Naah, it's much too far for me and I live way north out of Melbourne. For me to get to Avalon I have to go through Bacchus Marsh.
Plus I'm a ff gatherer. 8)
The only thing that would make me consider it is if the seats were a lot more comfortable than the usual coach seats and it was a long haul flight - ie AVV-CNS.

I read in one of the papers that Jetstar is stacking more seats than the Virgin configuration. 70-odd cm as compared to 80-odd cm pitch. (Sorry I am not technical). So I do not think they will be more comfortable than any other airlines!!!

Also did you see that on the Qantas website they are advertising 20% off award bookings with Jetstar? I had a quick click around but couldn't find anything that said it was 20% less points required but what else could it be? With all the taxes and charges it would still be cheaper to go with the $29 fares! By rights Jetstar flights should require fewer points as you don't get a delicious meal (lurv that Caesar salad!) and free (warm) beer after 5pm.

Can anybody explain to me, why Qantas will give you (free) beer / wine (in Economy) on a flight from Sydney to Adelaide.... but when to then travel from Adelaide to Perth 45 mins later, the same day.... you have to pay $6.00 for the same stuff???

It's a just a bit inconsitent at times.

Another flight, (economy again), we completely missed out on any meal service at all. Flight scheduled to leave at 2020hrs. Actually departed at 2040hrs. (flight delayed by announcement) No inflight service... why: Qantas said, it was 10 mins. past dinner service time. There was drinks and nuts available on request only. ($6.00 of course!)

It's not just the alcohol & meal service that are inconsistent. On my last 2 MEL-BNE flights, they've come through about an hour after the meal service & served water to anyone wanting it. On MEL-PER though nothing, had heaps of people buzzing for some rehydration. Go figure!

Because Sydney to Adelaide is a Citiflyer service, but Adelaide to Perth is not.

I must agree with this. I have noticed that on a lot of the city flyer SYD-ADL flights that I do at around 1700 (ready for the meeting in ADL the next day) that the usually free drinks service was anything but

O.K., so on some days it was the Sunday...and the rules do state that it's supposed to be weekdays only.

But...on a recent PER-ADL flight on a Thursday, it was way past the 4pm time and they were still wanting to charge $6 for a beer !

I can't figure out what the hell is going on - does anyone know ?

From the website - "Other benefits (sic) of CityFlyer, available on weekday flights, include newspapers between 6am-9am and complimentary bar service (beer and wine) after 4pm."

Quite - but as I have pointed out repeatedly in several fora, your average punter doesn't know or care about the difference between CityFlyer and non CityFlyer services. As far as they are concerned, both flights are operated by Qantas, with the same aircraft, with the same seating, with the same cabin and tech crew, and provide the same levels of food service on board. I think that whilst "CityFlyer" was a good marketting ploy, providing different levels of service on different domestic services only serves to cause confusion and resentment amongst the self loading cargo.
