Air Crash Investigation

Is anyone here a major fan of the show? I've always wondered if regular travellers watch it. I'm totally addicted to it myself.

Yep, I love it too and I have it series linked on Nat Geo HD. My wife pointed out just the other night that the bloke who does the voice overs probably can't do very much other work because his voice is so recognisable/synonymous with that show.

Yep I love it too,I have read criticisms over the last few years about "continuity" issues but to me none of them have dne anything to diminish my love of watching it.
Nat Geo,Discovery, and Discovery Science are the most watched channels in my house.

Good to know I'm not alone. Hubby freaks and won't stay in the same room so I have to watch it when I'm on my own.

Must admit it does make me think a bit differently. For example, I was going to wait until the A380 had it's first couple of incidents so they could iron out the problems before I flew on it. Then I realised how awful it was to be thinking that way and booked it anyway.

SUCH a great show.

1/2 the fun would be letting others see it. Better yet, When in the USA watch the one with the AA MD-80 ploughing the field at DFW on a flight to DFW on a MD-80!

Again, as a new member I am so glad there are others just as crazy as I am . Air Crash Investigators is the best show on TV! I have a few QF 747 pilot mates and they also watch it religiously and comment on its accuracy . I also watch before flights and my wife can't comprehend that.

I did the A380 launch flight with SQ in Sept 07 and that was the only time I did every now and then have a couple of 'titanic' thoughts!

The show the other day on Lockerbie was another terrific example.

I'm also a huge fan and have come close a few times to watching it in-flight on the laptop but haven't risked it yet.

Probably won't bother either as I've always got loads of other non-flight-controversial-material to watch.

Much as I do enjoy watching Air Crash Investigation (it's a must-see for me when screening), I wouldn't be unhappy if it eventually ran out of material for new shows (i.e. no more crashes)...there is an air of sadness when watching most episodes re all the people who perished. Occasionally there's a happy ending (Gimli glider?), but too often many lives are lost.

Your hubby and I share something in common - we're both a bit wimpy However I do like to watch a whole season at a time and usually only a few days out of any flight I take - just to freak myself out even more!

You'd be surprised how chicken I get prior to the flight but I guess it all is overcome when I get to play around with all the angles and positions of that lie flat seat in J :mrgreen:

I also like the show. i find it to be very educational and I reckon knowing all the things that go wrong will give me that 2% extra chance to stay alive if ever in an crash. for example I never realised why the lifejacket had to be inflated after leaving the aircraft, i do now.

But it doesn't also annoy me like all those yank documentaries. Just the whole format is desinged to draw out a 15 minutes story to full an hour. They spend like 3 minutes building the tnesion, "the plane took off on a normal day yada, yada, yada, but something wasn't right, what was it" then you get an ad break then they come back with " flight 1234 took of on a clear day, but all was not right, what was it?

Annoyingly repeative.

Two things:

a. the guy who did the voice-over in the first season was an absolute snooze-fest. The one who has done it since then is fantastic.

b. my fave episode was the one where he landed a jet with NO fuel on a runway the pilots thought was clear, but was being used for drag racing on that exact day!

Yep, good one. and at the end, the 2 boys on their bikes; the voice over says something like the boys foolishly try to outrun an aircraft travelling at 200 mph on their bikes. There i was picturering them getting run over but the kids survive (not even close to being flattened) - talk about over egging the pudding

Great show. Even if you have no interest in flying/aviation the way they remake the crash and consturct it bit by bit is fascinating (this came from a person with whom I watched the show and they couldn't give a stuff about planes, now addicted to it).
