Bizarre hotel room design

I've seen some poorly designed hotel rooms but this one at an Austrian hotel I stayed at last week was particularly bizarre. There was a clear glass wall between the shower and the main area of the room with no curtains or anything else. Could get rather awkward if sharing the room with someone you don't really know.



What's the strangest hotel room design you've seen?

Yer, have stayed in a few “trendy” hotels with open plan bathrooms. Not a feature I find appealing either.

Glass bathrooms are an unfortunate trend. Sometimes if you're lucky they have a blind but even then the light shines through which means late night toilet visits always disturb the other person in the room. Hate them.

I am no fan of glass toilet doors. Give me a solid one. And another thing I’ve struck is the bath in the main room. Here.

I can’t remeber the hotel in Singapore but the bathroom walls were glass as were the door with no curtains, right next to the bed. Quite a sight for the wife when laying in bed and her head is basically on my lap while I’m on the toilet

Our current room in Amsterdam, hubby said he's going to watch TV while enjoying a spa bath tonight

Room is quite large and comfortable..... But that bath tub

Even Relaxation Room at Sydney Hilton has spa bath in centre of room.
Toilet and shower are at least behind a door

I think I found another candidate for this thread at a hotel in Brisbane last week. The hot & cold water taps for the shower are not actually in the shower...

We have good tradesman and plumbers in Brisbane you know!

The bath in the bedroom is fine if you're with an intimate partner and want to share a bath before/after bed.

Otherwise it's icky for business meetings, as are see through walls on the toilet.

Novotel Homebush and the Dexter inspired Crime Splatter Curtains. The only hotel room Ive woken up in and asked myself, "What did you do last night".




Hilton Doubletree in Perth has a magic blind that while lying in bed you can either see your partner have a shower or a sh....

I personally can't see the point of a hotel bathroom with massive windows out to the main room (whether with blinds or not) and always thought it was odd, but maybe some people who like long baths might want to have a bit more of a view.

Been in some rooms with no way to block the bathroom view at all (no blinds), as well as a setup where there was one sliding door shared between the shower stall and toilet and only closed one at a time, though I guess it's rare they'd be in simultaneous use with both users actually needing privacy from each other.

The posts here make my experiences downright amateurish. Definitely some strange designs out there!

Sheraton at Port Douglas is decorated in tropical terms. Shutters etc. Including a shutter door for the bathroom. Seriously, a shutter door is damn useless. Who on this planet thinks a shutter door works for a toilet.

Never been a fan of those hotel rooms where you can be a voyeur of someone on the coughper. If you are really into that, just go to India and watch the locals release their bowels on the street!

No doubt strategically designed to make the overall hotel room look much bigger. I actually like having such windows, as long as there is blackout curtain for times when you might need it. In the now distant past (2019 ) when I used to travel, most of the time I would occupy the room myself, thus such windows were fine. I always leave the blinds open, it does add to the overall light in the bathroom and the overall sense of space in the hotel room. Although I strictly reserve these comments for "traditionally" located bathrooms with toilets that have translucent doors, as opposed to bathrooms located right in the centre of the room, which are just bizarre.

Can't remember which country it was in, but I recall being confused that their was a shiny stainless-steel pole in the middle of the room, near the bed. The penny only dropped later - it is for pole-dancing!! This realization made me feel unclean, after sleeping in that bed....
