Not surprising. Australia never reciprocated, and still required a 600 Visitor visa application, which is a few hundred dollars and potentially months of waiting.

The only time I ever had to get an Visa was for Brazil, I dropped my passport off in person at the Consulate in Canada House at the Rocks and it took ~8 days.

For other countries like Argentina there was a reciprocity free on arrival or for Cuba you could buy the "visa" at CUN airport.

I cant see Aus government scrapping the visa for Brazilians so unsurprising this is back.

On my second visit to Brazil, - a day trip from Argentina and back by car - my driver took my passport into the border crossing building while I sat in the aircon in the car. He came out with a visa for me and we drove off

Not sure what happened wrt the process Matt noted above (probably delayed), but Brazil is again 'reintroducing' the requirement for Australians (and Canadians and Americans) to get an eVisa from 10 January 2024.

Shame....in the last few months, I have had to get visas for Turkiye (twice), Egypt, Tanzania and Vietnam...whilst all were done online it was a PITA and added to the trip costs!

I must admit I am much less inclined to visit a country with a complex visa process - if I can obtain one online easily even is it costs a lot - that's OK - but when you need to jump through hoops - well other countries will get my tourist dollars.

Easy, yes, but certainly not "no cost". It costs USD 60 per person for Australians.

Yup USD60 for eVisa with instant approval ...it was a very expensive overnight stay in Istanbul recently en route to Africa... had to add USD120 for the 2 of us to the overnight hotel cost! Should have added this to the "Travel mistake:" thread...

Yeah, it was delayed. The Brazilian embassy website has more details:

Apparently the Brazilian government is citing "reciprocity" as a reason for the new Visa requirements.

Just out of interest ... anyone know how much Australia charges Brazilians to enter here?

I was planning to take next year a cruise that includes stops in 3 brazilian's ports.

Now, with a complex visa process, I am inclined to take this cruise. Even if I want to see Igguazu Falls, I can see it from other side and
other countries will get my tourist dollars.

All about milking that cash cow that is the tourist. Easy way to prop up the coffers. Its a false economy though, the tourist dollars foregone will exceed the revenue raised.

For years, Chile didn't require a visa for Australians, simply charged a reciprocity fee on arrival (US$100 from memory, 5 years ago). Now they do require a visa, via an execrable on-line process and worse wait afterwards - A$190.

I think that it already changed as initially it was designed to be processed by ambassy.
Three weeks ago I see these $190 pp and I decided to cancel my next year cruise due to this visa complexity.

However, the new electronic process will be easier, faster and cheaper.

That’s why I stayed in the Yotel Airside hotel at Istanbul Airport in June. The room was excellent and it avoided both the visa fee and taxis.
