CX J lounge at MEL

Well, here's a new thread to christen the new CPAM forum.

Flew CX to HKG ex MEL on Tuesday. Had breakfast at the QF Flounge, then checked out the CX J lounge, as I've never been in there.

Stayed only long enough to take a couple of pics for the Trip Report.

Ugh. Did I miss something? A small, poky lounge with basic food and bev, and no windows.

CX J inflight (I went onto YVR) on the other hand, excellent.

You didn't miss anything. Neither the CX or QF J lounges in MEL are worth the effort if you have access to the F lounge.

The midnight flight MEL-HKG would not be able to utilise QF F lounge... QF lounge shuts too early now

CX satellite lounges are never anything to write home about.

inflight is always consistently good IMHO

Will try. Having issues getting my photos off my iPad onto the laptop I'm travelling, so e-mailing is refusing as well, due to 'outgoing mail server' issues. Have the weekend to figure it out, though.

I'll be flying AKL - MEL - ALK on QF this month. As a Qantas SG, which airline has the best lounge in MEL that I can use? Is it Emirates??

CX 134 that I took was an A330 3 class 'with new J product' . For business it has seven 1-2-1 rows (11 to 18), then doors and a small galley, then three 1-2-1 rows (19-21) in a 'mini cabin', then curtains to four rows of premium economy. A330-300 (333/33G) - Cathay Pacific Australia

I chose 19A, first window seat behind the mid class doors/galley, for the 'mini cabin' effect. The cabin was nice and snug, and there wasn't that much noise from the galley (daytime flights that's less important anyway I think). If I flew it again I think I'd still choose a seat in this section.

My flight was only moderately loaded in J - there were only 5 of us in the mini cabin (out of 11).

I didn't go forward into the main J cabin. I'm not sure that 'spreading out' is as easy on the CX J seat configuration as it is on straight side-by-side seats. The CX seats are at an angle, and there is a bit of a privacy and services 'bulkhead' between you and the next seat. You get a bit of an impression of that from the seat map.

The new J seats have lots of room by themselves. There is the ottoman beyond your seat, and the space under that, also a space by your calf that will take a laptop, camera, phone, toiletries bag and headphone case (albeit a bit stacked with all that lot!) and a small flat surface over that space which can easily take a book, iPad and a drink. And there is also a small cupboard on the entry side for shoes.

All in all, MUCH more space than, say QF J and the joke that is LH J on A380.

But you won't go wrong with 16D IMO. If 16G is empty, you will be able to put stuff there, but if its not, you'll probably be OK anyway.

The CX seats are not designed to spread out. There is good storage space within each seat. If solo I would take an A or K.
