Both unfortunately. Dom in MEL for your flight to SYD then recheck at SYD T1 Int in the morning. I believe SYD will not hold baggage o/n so expect to collect on arrival in SYD.We are flying Mel Syd JNB. The first flight is late Sunday then early Monday morning for the second sector.
Do we check in at domestic or international baggage?
Appreciate your advice.

You'd book a hotel for the night. We've done it more than once.I wonder … is there a potential glitch in this?
You say you’re leaving MEL late Sunday but leaving SYD early Monday … Sydney airport shuts down overnight, you can’t fly in any later than about 11 & you can’t fly out before about 6am … is it possible to even stay in the terminal overnight? The lounges all shut down etc, are the lights switched off?
So anyway, given that the airport’s shutting down between your arrival at night & leaving the next day, is it even possible to check luggage all the way through, even if there’s a domestic-transferring-to-international counter at MEL domestic?
And … do you have somewhere to spend the 6-ish hours between arrival in Domestic & departure from International?
Yes, or the 420 bus (if not too much luggage). The bus loops around from T3 to T1.We have booked at Rydges. I suppose we will need to catch the train if we don’t have a n international boarding pass.
I'm assuming QF63 SYD-JNB scheduled departure is 09:30a.Pity we dont know the actual flight times. In my simple little mind "late Sunday" could mean anytime from 5.00pm onwards and "early Monday" could be anytime upto around 9.00am
Yes there is.It appears 15 minutes between trains at that time, which isn’t as bad as I thought it was.
I can’t recall … but I think there’s a display showing when the next train is before you get all the way down there.
If considering PT in Sydney, I would install the TripView app, and add whatever routes are relevant to your travel. The paid version isn’t much (it was in the order of $5 when I bought it - but that was loooong ago) & I think the only difference with the free version is that it only stores 5 routes or 10 routes or something like that. Also can use the real time trip planner. Trip Planner
Specific to SYD (and the greater Metro area), the Opal app has the ability to search and save favourite trips (even platform info for trains). Plus the real-time info.If considering PT in Sydney, I would install the TripView app, and add whatever routes are relevant to your travel. You can save the 400 bus from domestic to international, and the train from domestic to international, then when you’ve picked your bag up you check the app to see which option’s going to be most suitable. It uses the public API’s published by the transport authorities to keep location & arrival-time of buses & trains & ferries up to date, within about 30 seconds or so, so if your ride is late or early you know about it.
