Duty Free liquids LHR-PER-MEL

I am on the first QF9 ahem QF10 flight from LHR-xPER-MEL.

I would like to buy some alcohol in LHR. I will of course be able to get it to PER, but is it likely to be confiscated before the tag flight to MEL as I transit PER international terminal?

Were I transiting another country (eg SIN) I would not be able to keep it, but in this case I have landed in my country of destination. Of course, if I was transferring to a domestic flight to get from PER-MEL I would not have any problems.

Thoughts?

I am only transiting PER. I continue on QF9 to MEL and will clear customs there.

On the international tag flights I have done to MEL, stopping in SYD and ADL, I’ve had to go through full LAG checks in SYD and ADL.

Friends of ours bought expensive wine in Chile not realising it would be taken off them in NZ if they followed instructions by taking all items off the plane there. They decided it was worth the risk and tucked them right at the back. Sure enough others lost their wine but not this friend.

Thanks for that. *sad face* I reckon this is the pertinent point:

If you are transiting through Australia, you will be subject to liquid, aerosol and gel screening at the transit screening point in Australia before re-boarding for departure to your final destination. If the screening process is unable to clear your duty free items, you will need to surrender them.

I might get that can of beer anyway, just to be sure

I have never been able to tale anything not even Jo Malone , They have always asked me where I am going as soon as I mention Australia at the LHR shops it quickly goes to 100mls and even then not convincingly.

In the rare case they miss it or it is a container of <=100ml and in your LAG baggy, there is little chance of getting the can through.

in 2014 I flew QF LHR-xDXB-MEL. The LHR duty free were adamant that I would lose the bottle I wanted to buy in DXB. I knew better and pushed back. They eventually relented but only after I agreed to sign a waiver that I would not hold it against them if confiscated.

FWIW in DXB as you return to the plane bags are searched and any liquids are taken and put in the hold. They are then collected from 'oversize luggage' in MEL.

Is the duty free alcohol you are after only available in LHR or is available at MEL airport duty free. If it is available at MEL you can purchase it prior to your departure and can collect on arrival. I only discovered this last year and was quite simple choose and pay prior to leaving, give them the details of your arrival fight no. and date then collect on arrival, no need to lug bottles around in HL or worry of being confiscated . There is a pick up area just next to the main arrivals duty free store.

Yeah it's easier to ask on line and get lots of partial answers that frustrate you ensuring you need a drink to relax.

Yesterday I found a situation at Perth none of us were expecting. There is *no* security screening if you are transiting PER on QF9 or QF10. So if you would like to buy a bottle of something duty free airside in MEL or LHR feel free.
