Gran class Shinkansen

Anyone tried this. Its a class above the GreenClass. while green class is marketed as F, its more like a J (according to friends Ive spoken to)

prices about double that of Green and only 6 rows in a carriage of 3 seats per row

I am happy with the ordinary Shinkansen so have seen no reason to even try Green class.Really don't think it worth the extra.

As a survivor of 50 plus trips certainly.Do it on here as many are interested.there have been quite a few threads on Japan already.

I liked green class. Yes the economy version is ok but I would pay for green class again, it's roomier and more comfortable.

I would think the Ginza is more Times square.In fact there are several "centres"in Tokyo and Shinjuku is certainly one of them.good metro and rail access.The NEX Express does serve Shinjuku.
The Gyoen National Garden is in Shinjuku and is worth a visit.

APA hotels are basically Business hotels.I don't think we have stayed in one but certainly a few similiar in the smaller cities of Japan.Functional and quite OK.

Our initial 2 night after KUL-NRT is in Japan before shinkansen to Nagano then local train to Myoko-Kogen then back to tokyo for a 3 days or so before NRT-KUL-SIN-SYD.

Seems hotel patronage is quite high during my planned visit. Most hotels in the Shinjuku area are nearly fully booked. Might try Tokyo station area instead

Anywhere close to a metro station basically is fine.The Yamanote line stations are also reasonable for access to other parts of Tokyo.

Yes we tried it a few weeks ago from Nagano to Tokyo and I can highly recommend it. We had a nice meal which is complementary and drinks are complementary too.

I appreciate this started as a "green class" query but I'm equally interested in the general advice aspect of a trip to Japan. I am planning to be in Tokyo in mid June which will be my first visit. I am only there 4 days and 3 nights so will concentrate on Tokyo and branch out when I return in September. Does anyone have any comments on the Prince Hotels and Resorts chain for accommodation generally, as I am considering them for my stays? They appear to be satisfactory business hotels and resorts but I would like a recommendation if anyone has utilised them in the past.

When are you going? A lot of Japanese hotels won’t open for bookings until 3 months out.

Being spoiled guy who likes to travel in comfort I was interested in Green Class but when sat there once very briefly just to check it out I didn’t find it special enough to justify the extra cost.
