Hotel suggestions in Barbados

I have a few days to kill in Barbados prior to joining a cruise this December. Prices in Georgetown for chains are very high (think US$400-$1000+ /night).

Does anyone have a recommendation for a place outside Georgetown, or there but not need to sell a kidney?
