JAL A350-1000 seats revealed

Today, JAL has released their new seats and seating arrangements for their A350-1000 which will replace their 777-300ERs starting from late this year on JL5/JL6 from HND-JFK.

JAL's A351 is configured 6F/54J/24W/155Y, compared to the 8F/49J/40W/147Y on the 777s that they are replacing.

First class: full sliding doors, JAL says that each suite converts into a single or double bed although looking at the pictures I can't see how it is really a double bed - more like a bed and a seat next to it.
Business class: As expected with new business class seats these days, there are full sliding doors. There is also built in headrest speakers - interesting.
Premium economy: Similar to JAL's current premium economy seats, they are in a fixed shell config which slides forward to recline. The new seats have a similar pitch (42 inches) and will also have electronic reclining. It's interesting that they have only configured the aircraft to have so few premium economy seats though.
Economy: Pitch is similar to JAL's current layout (33 inches) - however, seats are arranged 9 across in economy, so JAL's 787s is a better product in economy.

I have JL 6 in F in July. Can review if no one else on AFF has done it. As an aside used QF points they are now all gone.

Hope eventually they'll come to the MEL>TYO routes.

The speakers is interesting, but could be like those neck speaker things you can wear where it's very difficult for anyone else to hear but you can clearly hear what's coming out

Depending on placement it would also provide the ability to more comfortably listen to content whilst laying down.

Whether you wear over the ear or in ear noise cancelling head phones, neither is comfortable if you are a slide sleeper - they put pressure on your ears.

I also imagine it saves ongoing costs related to providing headsets.

Yes, but in your home its just you and those who want to be with that entertainment system, listening to it. On a plane, there are multiple people in close proximity who don't want to overhear what is coming out of your speakers and can't move away.

I mean, headphones were created to enable personal listening & not have the sound broadcast around. The sound broadcast was the problem and headphones were the solution.

So you get someone without good hearing having the volume of their speakers up so they can hear. The next person, with very good hearing, can hear it but is trying to sleep. What happens? Lean over and ask them to turn it down to a volume that they can't hear .. or ask a FA to do it (they'll love that)?

Like I said - headphones were created to contain sound to the person wanting to hear it, which in an aircraft I think is a reasonable thing to require.

Given the currently stated timeline for delivery of more of these aircraft, does anyone want to hazard a guess as to how long before they get this product on either both daily JFK flight OR another route EG LAX? Tossing up whether to book to/from the US on JL for Dec24/Jan25.

Looks really good in all classes.

What strikes me about Y+ and the no recline is how much space there seems to be for a non-aisle pax to get out. What that's like in reclined mode remains to be seen though.

Cabin definitely looks good, just a shame we probably won't get these planes to Aus. Maybe there's a chance to try it going to US via HND.

Built in speakers are very common in Japan if you've been to one of their super sentos...
Most of the loungers have this design, I'm sure whatever problems had been fixed long time ago.
I personally like them a lot.

Edit, dug out this photo from....2019 I think? So you can see...these were much closer together than JAL J cabin....
