LAX Hotels - Which ones are cheap but yet good ?

Hi everyone.

Looking at a quick overnight stay at an LAX hotel on Thurs 7 May after a 5.5 hr flight from DC arriving at about 8pm. Meeting my sister at LAX 7am the next morning after she flies in from Aus....

Anyone suggest an affordable, quality hotel where I'm going to get a decent night sleep and no bed bugs? hehe

Unable to comment on a hotel around LAX, but there was a similar thread several months ago on this same subject, so a search on this forum might be appropriate.

Not sure what you consider "cheap". I have used the LAX Marriott several times, it is fine and I found it convenient. If you have a corporate rate or membership with Marriott if can make good sense. Good luck.

Sheraton Gateway LAX and Westin LAX are both decent and reasonably cheap (well, at certain corporate rates anyway...cheaper than other LA hotels). Worth a look.

They have a great bar at the Four Points LAX. Especially if you like beer.

There are also a couple of Hilton Garden inns.We have stayed at the HGI south.HGIs are all basically the same.Good sized room.Free internet.Usually a good price.Better than the Hilton LAX.

Cheaper LAX hotels are, in the main, black holes. If you can swing the cash, stay at a reputable one in the LAX area.

Outside LAX, I always recommend Holiday Inn Express, anywhere.

I've found a special deal with Starwood Hotels website . buy one night and get the second night at 50% off.... So, I could stay at Four Points Sheraton for two nights at US$180 all up... Though I only really needed to stay one night at a LAX hotel. My question now is, how hard is it to get from LAX to Hollywood and the other touristy things? Is public transport the way to go, or should I be hiring a town car and driver for the day?

By all means hire a car. I will be in Hollywood in April, and it's the only way to go.

Get a convertible if you can, put the top down and cruise the freeways of LA!

It is difficult to get around without a rental, but if you have a GPS with USA maps you will have no problems and don't let the Santa Monica Fwy intimidate you with 6 lanes each way in peak hour. Another little driving tip to remember is that freeways with even numbers go east/west and freeways with odd number go north/south, so if you are are I5 you know you are going either north or south.

Wow thanx for that tip Maca44.... Yeah the Santa Monica freeway sounds a bit daunting, so the GPS idea is good too! I've got my international drivers licence sorted today, so it looks like I might be doing the convertable thing too ozimax

It is only 8 mins to the Venice/Marina Del Rey/Santa Monica area.

A bit longer to the other side of town, ie Beverly Hills, Hollywood and West Hollywood. Probably around 30 mins or so.

If you're looking to shop, Fred Segal is the way to go. There's one in Santa Monica near the Pier which is probably nearer to where you are, but there's also another on Melrose in WeHo - arguably the more glam location. Other major shopping areas are concentrated on Rodeo Dr (big name European boutiques), Robertson in WeHo and Abbot Kinney in Venice (up-and-coming, trendy designers). And there's also the little shops on Melrose but it's a bit too grungy for my liking.

And please do drop by the bar at the Peninsula in BH. For less than $20 you get an awesome beef burger, WITH macaronis AND shaved truffles (this ain't just the truffle oil cough but actual truffles).

Often I stay in a quite nice hotel opposite the Hacienda hotel in El Segundo, and I certainly wouldn't call it a "Black hole".

And, using priceline.com, it costs less than USD 50 (plus taxes) a night.

I guess those people on expense accounts would frown on it, but if anyone wants the details, please PM me.

I think that I may be one of those who started an LAX-Hotels forum a few months ago.

My wife, baby and I stayed at a brilliant hotel on our outward and inward trips en route to Toronto, after great reviews from members here.

The Hilton Garden Inn El Segundo/LAX surpassed expectations. From the moment we were picked up to dropped off we had nothing bad to say about this hotel.

Free shuttle picks you up within minutes of being called. Drivers were always friendly, helpful and courteous.

Front desk staff were efficient and friendly. Rooms were very clean, spacious and the beds were very comfortable. The much talked about pantry was affordable and helpful.

Great facilities and despite some reviews complaining about the location it honestly was not bad at all. No aircraft noise to speak of despite only being five minutes from the airport.

Room service was also affordable and the breakfast buffet represented excellent value at around $US11.95. Lots of channels available on the Full HD televisons.
On our return stay the hotel staff had already assembled a port-a-cot for our son in the room before arrival!

All facts and figures stated on the OS are accurate and not at all far fetched or embelished.

We have already booked our two night transit stays for the end of the year at this hotel.

I'm booked into the Westin LAX on 29/4 at a rate of $64USD + 14% tax, and a reward of 2,000 starwood points following a successful Best Rate Guarantee claim. (star points can be bought at $35/1000)

The reviews of the Westin LAX isn't flash hot but to earn over 3,000 points which is say worth $105usd, I could not say no for them to pay me to stay there

Oh also, I am overnighting at the Sheraton LAX on 10/5 for I think $95USD per night. Again another succesful BRG claim.

Four Points by Sheraton would be my first choice, followed by Sheraton Gateway (Shula's restaurant is great!).

You can find cheaper places to stay, but in terms of comfort, and value for money, these are my two favourites.

My family of 3 stayed for a night and 2 days with late checkout (10pm! for a paltry fee) at the Liberty Hotel which has apartment-rooms and a small kitchen. Its just behind the Kodak Theatre/Graumanns/Radisson/Shops/Eateries which is on the Hollywood Stars footpath. At Graummanns are the $25 all-day 'hop on, hop off' buses that do the tourist route, eg Sunset Blvd, Rodeo Dve, and go to Universal's theme park too. I didn't need a car.
