Peppers Silo hotel,Launceston.

A week ago we spent a night here.The problem with the city centre hotels is noise-especially from the Post Office bells which toll every 15 minutes.So first the pictures.

In the bedroom the silo walls are obvious.

You can see it really was a grain silo.
The room was spacious and comfortable.It was certainly quiet so if staying in Launceston on a leisure stay we would be happy to return.Especially if again you got quadruple QFF points.

Looks quite interesting, What was the restaurant like (assuming one) if you tried it? As I am a bit lazy - how fat out of the centre is the hotel drron? I know; I should look it up.

It is over the river from Seaport.There ius a pedestrian bridge to Seaport so not a terribly long walk into town.
Yes there is a restaurant naturally called Grain.i did a review.this should be it.

Seeing I am here I thought it better to do a specific thread for Launceston and surrounds. First up the Star of Siam.Our favourite Thai here and just a short walk from the Quest.Doesn't hurt that is in the Amex shop small promotion. We are trying to stick with Tassie wines so start with a Tamar...

Looks like a promising place to spend the odd day or so when in the area (though after reading the restaurant review maybe not eat there). I remember mrs.dr.ron commenting on the bell tower in the city.

I spent a night here this week. Like drron I found it pretty good, but I had a problem with noise. As usual, I requested a 'quiet room if possible', and as usual, the check-in person didn't try to find one, but assured me that the assigned room would be OK. It wasn't. It was directly above the terrace, from which a function spilled. Several polite requests at reception that the function-people might be quiet or be asked to retreat back into their room, met with no action that I could tell, so a third, less polite visit to reception ensued, resulting in my getting another room to sleep in, without having to cart everything from the other one.

The area near the hotel under development when the drrons visited has been turned into a nice and sophisticated kids playground. Lots of riverside wildlife like ducks, swans and native hens.

Its a short walk to a bridge across the North Esk to the SeaPort development and some additional restaurants, and not far beyond that to the CBD. Very nice walking, but unfortunately the confluence of the two Esk rivers is usually very sluggish, and for years its been subject to mud, in just the area of these nice developments and a marina.







... resulting in the boat and property owning fraternity being a bit fed up ...







The Seaport hotel's bar is called "Mudbar", but they also get into the action



Onwards a bit brought back some memories ... this is where we launched our 8 many years ago ... to win the Head of the River

I didn't look closely at the vehicle when I took/posted the picture, but its obviously an inner-city worker, one like your old man!
