PER-SYD, 747 AVOD faulty

On the last 2 PER-SYD sectors on the 747, the AVOD hasn't worked properly.
Last month, AVOD was out for more than 50% of the trip.
Yesterday, AVOD was out for more than 80% of the trip.

Have l just been unlucky?
Has anyone else has these problems?

I used to have this problem regularly on international 747 flights (to London and Frankfurt). Very annoying and it used to be related to the Siemens (I think) system. According to the flight attendants, techies from Siemens were often on board but there were still ongoing problems.

I'm not sure but think that the latest round of cabin upgrades (that included installing PE on 747's as well as AVOD for trans tasman flights) meant the end for these problems.

Yes, I did 2 PER-SYD and a SYD-PER on the B747 last year, and on two of the flights they needed to reboot the system at least once, and on one of the flights they needed to reboot the system twice.

I put in a complaint to QF explaining that we chose the B747 option over even direct options because of AVOD, so wasn't happy, still waiting to hear back from them 3 months later.

The 747 servicing the PER-SYD route, isn't that meant to be a refurbished aircraft?
I thought it was and also thought that they'd fixed the AVOD problem with the referb? Seems not.

No! It is the only 2 class configured 744 Qantas has left.

I believe out is to be retired soon enough.

This very topic has come in within another thread. I argued vehemently that the billboard (that was also on display at Perth airport) showed a Skybed Mark II. Red Roo posted to say the photo was Mark I. Perhaps the photo was taken on an angle to make the seat look flat!

I believe the AVOD on many of the older QF beasts are Rockwell-Collins Windows CE-based installations. This includes the first of the A330 fleet of A/C. I remember flying on one when it was less than 6 months old with a R-C tech on board monitoring the resets and failures all over the A/C. Needless to say he flew 3,300km (Syd-Per) and walked about 50km up and down the A/C during this time (okay - I exaggerate a little, but he wasn't still for the entire flight). His face said it all - "Not happy Jan"...

New and retrofitted A/C have Panasonic systems. Up goes your reliability, as proven by our experiences...
