Per VA lounge pre - international departure

Anyone actually using this lounge predeparture for international flight? eg NZ Per-Akl? Are they ok with that? Do you leave about 20min prior to expected boarding call to get through customs etc? I've walked past this lounge on arrival but never been inside it so was thinking about checking it out next time. The smart gates for international departures are in place now and make the whole customs security thing speedier. Do you just walk along the top floor from the VA lounge to get to customs?
