*pop* (champagne cork) Bring on which bubbly?

• You can get it when you first get to the F Lounge. Or you can get it when you first step into F on board. Matter of fact, why not now? (Except they're all probably too expensive)

So which of the following bubbly's do you prefer to quaff?

EDIT: I forgot to include an option for "Other Champagne" :evil::!: For those that would like to enlist another option, just answer "I'll pass up on all of those, please", then include the name of the bubbly in your post.

(Disclaimer: I am not a wine or champagne expert so please do not jump up and down on me if I clearly missed a key champagne or if I have listed one which is either unpopular, of bad quality or misspelt.)

How about Charles Heidsieck Blanc des Millenaires 95, Winston Churchill, Bollinger Grand Annee 1999 or for a top value and totally underrated NV - Billecart-Salmon Brut?

I picked the 'depends on mood/situation/environment' option.

For the ones you picked out,
Moet - more hype than substance. The 2000 ain't bad but for the same $$ you could do a lot better.
Dom P - the 1999 is nice in the air but tends to get sickly sweet on the ground. 2000 is a bit better, not nearly as sweet though a bit green.
Krug - solid and dependable personally, love the toasty aromas - but some others comment that it's a tad too heavy.

Pol Roger NV Brut is currently on specials for $48 at my local bottle-o, pretty good at that price. I think general retail price is about $60ish. A decent number too - light, pretty bready and v creamy.

edited to add - my comments relate to when I actually go out to buy bubbly. if offered for free I'd take what's served. (with exceptions of course - like that terrible paint stripper served on Cathay long haul J).

Dom Pom - I had my first taste in F on a wonderful QF flight - it was like drinking joyous angel tears

I still have a bottle of the Dom 1990 in the fridge awaiting a worthy occasion.

I bought this when a local Cairns bottle shop didn't discriminate in price between vintages and there lurking at the back of the shelf were three crown jewels for $200 apiece awaiting this lucky buyer! (worked for a few bottles of red as well).

Now that's a nice drop!

IF anyone goes to Malta the bottles of wine seem absurdly cheap. We were drinking DOM in a restaurant for $120 a bottle. In fact that's the first time I go to taste it. I seem to have missed the days of Dom and Krug in F lounges and on board...

I would have voted for the missing Veuve Cliquot option - both the regular NV Ponsardin and the La Grand Dame top-shelf version if cost is no object. I'm not a big fan of the Vintage versions for some reason - my wife and I prefer the 'entry-level' NV. Occasionally they come on sale for $50-55 by the dozen which seems quite reasonable - though I notice the liquor store down at our local Coles charges closer to $90.

Had my first taste of Dom (which turned into many bottles) on a recent AONE4 trip - thanks Qantas for introducing me to that one, though for the price I'll keep it as my in-flight tipple only.

I am a creature of habit and used to get Veuve NV all the time, regardless of the costs. Then they had that overhaul to produce new Veuve, sourcing new grapes, changing the compositions etc - and I stopped liking Veuve as much as I am not as enamoured with the new taste. Horses for courses I suppose.

Now La Grand Dame... that's a different kettle of fish. (edit: sorry just noticed your handle - no pun intended)

I voted option #4 as the only time I drink the stuff is when Flounging, UG'd to J, or the CSM approaches me in my Y seat offering a drink from the bar.

Have probably only tried three or four decent champagnes and can honestly say that I would be unable to tell them apart.

I was being serious. You can give me a glass of cuvee and a glass of moet and I wouldn't be able to tell the difference.

I must remember to try both champagnes in the SYD Flounge on Thursday and see if I notice any difference....

My favourite; well don't really have one; but I tried Bollinger Christmas eve and I loved it.

Who said I was wasting my Platinum status? Also I did not say that I do not enjoy drinking champagne. I just can't tell the difference between the different labels. No great loss.
