RTW J with SO

We are looking to do a J RTW from AKL in July and want to do a bit of status chasing with work and leisure. So many choices and people AFF have reviewed so many flights and cities. Planning becomes a bit daunting and I have a few questions.
Is QF15 BNE-LAX the new version seating fully flat?
What is the consensus for comfort and enjoyment, QF 15 to LAX or QF7 to DFW ?

Are there any routes in USA on AA with 2 cabin new full flat seats?

What type of RTW ticket are you considering - a oneworld explorer, or one of the cheaper alternatives (e.g. a Finnair RTW ticket)?

To answer your first questions, QF15 is operated by a refurbished 747 with fully flat skybed seats 99% of the time. There is a chance of getting an older aircraft, but not likely on this particular route. QF7 is on the A380, so in my mind would be preferable to QF15, but both flights should be quite good.

Thanks Mattg, we were looking at oneworld explorer as I had no idea there were cheaper alternatives. We need to get to Boston, London and Hong Kong with some tourism in between. Can you tell me where to get more info on Finnair RWT

The oneworld explorer is great in terms of flexibility. It includes up to 4 stopovers in each continent and up to 16 flights in total. But it's also the most expensive (probably around $13K each for J ex New Zealand).

It sounds to me like the Finnair RTW ticket would be perfect for you. It basically involves flying Australia-North America-Europe-Asia-Australia (or in the other direction) with one stopover in each continent. The flights to/from Europe are on Finnair, and Australia-USA & Asia-Australia legs can be on Qantas (or one of a range of other airlines). I am fairly sure this would work for your routing (though you may need to pay extra for a New York-Boston leg), and the cost is closer to $8K.

Here's a link to an Australian travel agent that sells these. I'm not familiar with booking one of these from New Zealand, but I'm sure the fare would be available from there via a knowledge Kiwi-based travel agent.
