Transit time in Orlando - AA dom to AA dom

As part of our OWA next year we have a 54 minute connection time in Orlando between incoming and outgoing AA domestic flights (same booking).

Interested to hear the forum's advice on the adequacy of this connection time. As far as I can determine both flights operate in/out of the same terminal.

What’s the route?

54 minutes plenty of time to transfer in MCO. MCT is 30 minutes.

Issue is if connecting flight is late, there is not a lot of fat.

If it’s a popular destination I wouldn’t be concerned. If it’s a once a day destination, I’d try and get more time.

Agree. Flight times are well padded in the US.

My only recommendation is that if you absolutely ‘have’ to be at your destination, make sure there’s at least one or two more flights that day so if you miss the first connections you will likely be reaccommodated on the next one.

30 minute connections at US airports are common, but uh ou usually get a little more due to padding of schedules. I did a 15 minute transfer earlier this year due to storms and late arrival. I made it but my bags didn’t (delivered by courier next day and fully reimbursed by AA for immediate expenses).

Route is Miami to Chicago (couldn’t get a direct flight) so should be plenty of later flights And no specific need to be there by a certain time- will be there for 5 days.

Oh for that don’t worry at all. MIA and ORD are both major hubs, there’s countless ways to get there via one stop.

From my experience, transit times mean very little. I've been on bookings where I've had an over 3 hour layover at an airport but misconnected because my flight to the connecting airport was delayed due to ATC (allegedly) by several hours, on the other hand, just this week I had a 45 minute layover in MEL and had time to spare to visit the QF Club and have a light meal. If it's above the MCT all you are doing is changing the odds slightly of a mis-connection. There's nothing you can do on your end to eliminate delays, other than to have backup flights on the ready should you do misconnect at the airport. All of that said, there are tons of nonstops out of MCO to both of Chicago's airports (ORD - Orchard Field aka O'Hare, and MDW - Midway) so you should be fine.

On a OWA the OP will be flying AA, and AA only fly into ORD not Midway. ORD is an AA hub, MDW is only useful on Delta or SouthWest.

But on that route i wouldnt be too worried.

I used to MIA - Orlando - MIA frequently. It was always the same aircraft then. One time, everybody got off the plane and just left me completely alone and the coughpit wide open. I was very nervous that I might get accused of being seriously in the wrong (place and time). Once the cleaners came on board, I was a lot more relaxed, and they were unsurprised to see me there.
