Photos: Melbourne Airport’s International Terminal in December 2020

Last week, Melbourne Airport began accepting international arrivals (who go directly into hotel quarantine) for the first time since June. But with the controversial international arrival caps still in place, and Australians still banned from leaving the country without a travel exemption, the international terminal at Melbourne Airport remains eeriely quiet.

An Australian Frequent Flyer reader was at Melbourne’s Tullamarine Airport yesterday, and sent us these photos of Terminal 2. This is the terminal used for international flights.

According to this reader, Terminal 2 at Melbourne Airport was so quiet during the afternoon that you could hear a pin drop. The only passengers in the terminal were a few people checking in for a Scoot flight to Singapore.

In case you’re wondering, all of the airside airport lounges in Terminal 2 of Melbourne Airport also remain temporarily closed.

Luckily, things are looking a bit more lively in Melbourne’s domestic terminals nowadays. The Qantas Business Lounge in Terminal 1 reopened at the beginning of December, and Virgin Australia just reopened a domestic lounge area for its passengers in Terminal 3 on 15 December 2020.
