Beat me to it. Wynns have been around a long time for a reason, but I wouldn't be drinking the new release now. We're enjoying the 2008 black label cab sav, it's delicious.

A recent 2001 Cab Sauv (with cork closure) was remarkable drinking.

The end was supposed to say not "my" thing. I am not bagging Wynns and agree they have been around for so long for a reason. I couldn't find any good qualities in that bottle of wine. There was no fruit, lots of alcohol, burnt all the way to the bottom like I was drinking acid and the tannin was flat. I opened it 7 hours before drinking and poured it out and back into the bottle.

I have a few quaffer priced Wynns ($13-18) and at that price I buy them to drink now but none are grabbing me
 
Not quite wine but they don't make any here that I'm aware of so distilled beer wort is an alternative for the time being...

I tried my first Rose last night - first half glass was before food and I found it ok but once the first pizza was cooked it came into its own and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

After the Rockford I moved onto a Tassie Pinot but while very nice it was not what I was expecting and I discovered that I had confused the brand - there is a Nocton Vineyard and a Nocton Park Vineyard - both from the Coal river valley region

Have you tried the Cab Sav? For me that's a good Coonawarra red...

I think I've had that in the QF lounge but am not 100% sure - I will grab one at the next BWS 30% off sale and give it a go but it will also be very young.

i hear DM are opening a store in LST - if / when this happens it will be easier for me to try some of the cellar release wines they have.
 
A few recent drops - no pics right now as posting from my phone:
- Penfolds RWT 2011: a stark reminder of how bad the 2011 vintage was. Whilst it's actually a decent drop, it's nowhere near the quality you'd expect of an RWT and definitely not worth the full asking price. Hints of your big Barossa tastes, but generally lacking follow through IMHO

- Hewitson private cellar release Shiraz Mourvedre 2005: drinking very nicely now (of you avoid the sediment). Cork was still in good shape and the shiraz nicely offset by the mourvedre

- Bleasdale Generations Shiraz 2012: a bit of a revelation here: nice body, not too much fruit, lasted two days without deteriorating. Not one to buy if you're looking for huge flavours as I think it's a bit restrained, but a nice drop for the price.
 
Just opened one of the Pool Room mof_ purchases - the Moppity Vineyards Hilltops Reserve Shiraz 2010

My humble opinion on Vivino says:

Stunning wine. The label describes it perfectly - blackberries, raspberries, liquorice, game and spice follow on the long and balanced palate. It's silky smooth, mouth-filling, and very, very drinkable - well worth it's 97 rating and Reserve price tag (mostly because of the balanced, multi-layered velvety experience).

Vivino 4 stars

Excellent wine, and well worth it's premium price tag.

Thanks AC. I picked up the Hewitson PC 08 in magnum form from the Fo. Maybe I should keep it cellared to the 10 year point. What do you think?

Interesting view on the Bleasdale. I've had 3 bottles now, and didn't rate any of them. It has an interesting layered taste, but it died out quickly, and none of the bottles lasted a second night (the only red I had over the Winter that didn't last). I wondered whether this batch had aged prematurely, hence the knock-down price. Not a 96 pointer in my humble opinion.

Will have to crack open a second bottle then :) Not tonight though, as it's just too hot here for any big reds. Sticking to non-offensive white stuff in the fridge (Seppelt Jaluka ATM), and then some Oban or something later on tonight.
 
I've spent the long weekend in Central Otago and to be honest, there were so many Pinots and surprising wines like Riesling that have knocked my socks off. We've acquired a small selection, and contrary to popular belief, some of the Pinots will improve over the next 5-10.

The Hentley Farm Shiraz is a big well made wine. Whilst it is good now it will reward cellaring
