Indian eVisa

I recently applied for an eVisa, and got the 'granted' e-mail 2 days later. In fact I got 7 copies of the same e-mail within a few minutes!

However there was no attachment which I thought there would be, that is, the actual 'Electronic Travel Authorisation' which it says to present on arrival.

Should there have been, or is the e-mail the document I need?

A couple of years ago ours was just a text based email, no document. Just printed the email and presented at evisa desk on arrival.

Yep, agreed - and same when I was last there Q3 last year. eTV e-mail with Application and Visa No. printed and shown is all you should need.

Does the evisa save a wasted page in your passport or do the Indian authorities still put a full page sticker in there on arrival?

No visa stickers - but they still try to take up as much space as possible with their arrival and departure stamps!

If i remember correctly there is 1 evisa stamp rather large, and the normal arrival stamp.

Contemporaneous with asking the question here, I sent a query to the e-mail address given in the email I got.

A prompt reply! Gave me a link to the 'Visa enquiry page" (where you can always check the status of your application). Going through to the eVisa area, I got a page that was depressingly the same as the e-mail, except in colour. There was a button to print, so I did.

Et voila. What you get is a PDF is exactly what I was after - it has all the details on the e-mail, but also a passport type picture (the one I uploaded), together with a bar code, a QR code and a nice big Indian seal printed over the top.

Knowing Indian immigration officials a little too well... they will likely ask you where the print out of the e-mail is!
