Advice on whisky

Hellyer's Road do a great peated whiskey. If you get the opportunity, visit them at the distillery. If you take the tour, you'll get the opportunity to purchase a bottle of cask strength whiskey from their oldest batch. Bonus -you can bottle it yourself!
 
Oh, yes. Pioneer tour you are taken to one of the duty houses and shown 5 casks and you can pick one to fill up your own bottle. Hubby picked the 1998 casks. One white oak bourbon and one sherry barrel.

In the visitors shop, you can also bottle your own from one cask set up.

Hubby had to drink all the drams so I was driving.
 
Looking at purchasing a groomsmen gift for the buck. I know he likes Ardbeg Kelpie and really fancies Bruichladdich Black Art 1990 Edition 04.1. I've tried looking for the latter, but haven't been able to find anyone who has it in stock. The buck is looking at starting his collection, so would like something nice for him to start it off with. Any recommendations?

Thanks! They accept PayPal as a form of payment, so I feel a little more comfortable purchasing through them. I'll probably put the order later some time next week once I get the approval from the guys. Will let you know how it goes!

Given the passage of time that significant family event was conceived and delivered, a terrific little grandson and the S/Cove was extricated from the safe and transported way up north to wet the babies head.

A very.very nice drop, smooth - not a lot of nose- totally drinkable and with a small drop of water a whiskey drinkers dream, left some of the contents with the new Dad for future testing and toasting. (Probably wasted on an old soak like me....lol)

New Dad insisted I bring home a HELLYERS ROAD ORIGINAL, I like that also........

Picked up an Aussie BLUESTILL JAMES BENTLEY $54'ish a month back, what was in the bottle, certainly wasn't whiskey, first time in last decade added coke (blush) to whiskey to drink it.

It must have been a message from the Universe! Read Denali’s posts re Glenfiddich and checked my emails and there was one with a special on the Glenfiddich Project XX (NZ email) so have sent a bottle off to my father.

Hot on the tail of the JW Blue Label I sent him for his birthday 2 weeks ago.

That should keep him happy for a little bit! I fear I have upped my game too much and he will have higher expectations next time!
 
I'm new to drinking whisky, not a big fan of the peated whisky, but still can drink it. My previous go to's have been vodka, gin or cognac.
Can any recommend anything to start out? I've purchased a Macallan 12 Year Old Sherry to start out, awaiting delivery.
 
I'm very late to this thread, but last time I was in BNE duty free I was told Bruichladdich was a dedicated airport duty free brand.
I think this may have been BS after reading wikipedia which includes the magical popular culture reference:
  • In the 1990 BBC television production of the political thriller House of Cards, Chief Whip Francis Urquhart offers reporter Mattie Storin a glass of Bruichladdich when she arrives for an interview, remarking, "Bruichladdich, if you know your malts."
