Technically I'm not sure these flights qualify? Fifth freedom allows an airline to fly between two countries as long as the flight originates or terminates in its home country. In this case Finnair is originating and departing in Sweden, not Finland, and this is prolly more due to EU agreements rather than fifth freedom.

Will be interesting to see how they price it. Traditionally TG charged a fairly hefty premium on its flights ex Scandinavia. They also had premium economy on that route using the second J class cabin, offering flat bed and upgraded economy soft product. But the fare was almost the same as business class. AY's J service to thailand pre-covid was usually some sort of reduced offering 'reflecting the leisure market'. That might fit right in if they decide to continue it and price it competitively.

I think AY treated it like the Sin flights with SE Asian 'contract Cabin Crew but still in the A350. The evening meal in J was a reduced offering all on one tray. But you still got their latest J seats for a very good price.

I was wondering about the issue of the EU. The technical definition of fifth freedom seems to be the ‘granting by one state to another state’ [the right to fly between them and a third party]. If a member of the EU, is one state granting the right, or is it simply a byproduct of the union. A technicality, I know!
