I think it’s Christchurch Greyfriars. Opposite St Paul’s cathedral in London. Built by Christopher Wren and remodeled by the Germans in 1940. The remaining structure is actually a private house.

OK. The bugs are Mormon Crickets (or, more strictly I see, shieldbacked katydids (!) ) and the place is Utah.

The wave I photographed was well over a km long.

Greyfriar's London. Quite a few of my family from that parish. :) Destroyed in WW2.

I would have guessed a UK coastal town as the poem seems very british....
