Second Test, Australia v West Indies, Brisbane 2024

As usual, I down tools to attend the Test in Brisbane - as I have done for the last 30 years+. Enjoyable to spend time in the Cricketers Club, have silver service lunches and beers flowing. There has been a group of us going to the match together - clients and friends.

I will give live updates, photos and general commentary over the next three days - alas, being a father and husband has curtailed my previous full attendance.

Day 1 - also invited @Captain Halliday so he’ll make some comments today

So, to the day. First Day is always Torbreck. Thankfully our table is well known to the Qld State Manager, Greg and he also brought one of the winemakers Scott.

Their table is replete with their bottles on sale for the day:

Plenty of punters in the area that used to be the hill have their beach balls out and are bouncing them around among the crowd.

Every time one goes over the fence and onto their field the security staff deflate and confiscate them to a chorus of boos.

One large beach ball went over the fence and as the security guard approached, Mitchell Starc sprinted to get it and returned it to the appreciative fans.

Was the biggest cheer of the day so far.

How many bottles consumed ?

One magnum and 3 bottles so far. We’re sitting out in our outdoor seats now whilst they re-set for the second sitting (dinner). We’re negotiating for them to arrange a table where we can sit and drink another couple of bottles.

Sure did.

And a couple of determined half centuries.

We were outside for the entire second session and that was the only time there were no wickets.

The Windies probably would have liked us to stay out there a bit longer.
