Premium Economy from Sydney to Europe for ~$2,500 on China Eastern

I realise this won't be everyone's cup of tea, but ~$2.5k return isn't bad for Premium Economy to Europe return. Flights are via Shanghai on China Eastern, part of SkyTeam. You can earn Qantas points, or credit to a SkyTeam airline.



Also works out of Melbourne/Brisbane and into Madrid.



According to ITA Matrix, the flights seem to book into P class, which earns Delta SkyMiles/MQDs at First Class rates according to their website. Not sure if that's a mistake.

This was what I earnt on DL in Oct for SYD<>PVG. Granted things have changed so not sure what it is now.

Also Y+ in their a350 is ok. Hard product is solid, seat is reasonably comfortable with decent leg room and I managed to sleep ok.

Food is still very hit or miss depending on how you like chinese food - even then it can miss badly. Chrysanthemum tea is generally served and is one of the few airlines that serve it and I definitely recommend. BYO entertainment, the IFE is very bare and service is ok from cabin crew.

You might have to contend with self entitled Chinese pax from time to time although most are generally fairly sensible. The unruly ones can take DYKWIA to a whole new level.

Just did some quick maths.
Syd <> PVG <> FCO is 21158 miles return which with P earn rate is ~$12000 MQD. Should be instant DL Gold and just shy of 3000 MQD for Plat.

I flew china eastern premium economy from Mel to Shanghai and it was terrible. Uncomfortable seats. Got 1 can of beer and then told that they had run out of beer or any other alcohol. Economy class food

DL is fixing the F earn on MU P class (Premium Economy).

I like Chinese food, but that main looks like it was scraped off the floor. Maybe the sealed butter is safe to eat. I have flown China Eastern domestic flights and it was fine. Food was actually above expectations.

MEL-PVG-FCO in Premium Economy is a similar price, all on MU and with a shorter connection time in PVG on the way back.

nothing has changed. i flew MU yesterday LGW/PVG/BNE . . . only a few warm cans of budweiser available 'on request' , hopeless coffee, 3 toilets for 200+ pax in economy. The food was edible, legroom okay , friendly crew but hardly a full service airline. Amazingly the PVG/BNE was code-share with both AF & QF both of whom would normally offer wine with the main meals.
