Hotels near LAX

Have been looking around for somewhere to crash when we arrive in LA. Has anyone stayed at the Best Western Suites & Hotel, 5005 W Century Blvd? It is just down the road from the airport. TripAdvisor has been quite handy for reviews, but wanted more opinions please.

What budget are you looking at for your travels per night.I see you wish to drive the USA for 7-8 weeks.If willing to spend up to $US100 a night then consider Hiltons-Hampton Inns,Homewood suites and some Hilton garden Inns come for that or a little less.
The upside is you would probably be HH diamond by the end of your trip.Have enough points +status to get a really good award stay plus a couple of thousand airline miles as well.
If this is in your range there are a few HIs and HGIs around LAX.

We once crashed at the Best Western in Santa Monica for a couple of days. Definitely nothing special but it was nice being close to the ocean.

Hiring a car out of LAX is handy and the parking was free at the BW.

We will probably be arriving around 7pm so don't want to be going too far. Budget would be US$100 max per night. We're not really worried where we stay, as long as its clean and comfortable. Anyone used the Super 8, Days Inn or HI Express chains?

Id say go to hotwire.com and book your night on there. You can sort of tell what hotel you can get if you suss it out a bit on betterbidding.com

I managed to pick up the Crowne Plaza on arrival for $64 a night, and got the Raddison for $55 on the last day before coming home.

Raddison LAX is close and not too bad. Breakfast buffet the best of any hotel I have ever stayed in...

I booked this hotel the other day based on Tripadvisor. The rate was $113USD plus tax. We have stayed at the Holiday Inn in the past but their rate has skyrocketed to $175USD.:shock:

US$101.57 per night including tax for the night we arrive in LAX and our last night in LAX.

Just a question about Hotwire - are the 4 star hotels on there usually fairly good? The Crowne Plaza at LAX hasn't got any encouraging recent reviews on TripAdvisor :-| . I'm a bit reluctant to book and pay for a hotel when I can't first see what other people think of the place.

From other posts you're picking up a car, I'd collect the car and drive down to Anaheim. There is a mass of hotels and motels that are cheap and clean and it's only 30 miles on Freeway 105 straight from the airport.

When I go myself I usually collect the car and head completely out of town for the first night.

if you are keen to use a ICHG hotel try their family and friends rate, $50-70 for a HIX or HI near LAX, $80 for the CP.

The Radisson seems easy to get on Priceline for not much over USD$50..... Booked two stays for a friend there just recently and he was quite satisfied....

I have stayed at the LAX Hilton and found it comfortable, clean, and service very good (the "barrista" in the cafe understood what a flat white was ... "you're from Australia, aren't you?"). They had a free shuttle to and from the airport, and in our spare time, they even had a shuttle to and from the Westfield Mall at Culver City. Sure, it is an airport hotel, so quite busy with families and travellers staying there, but generally, it was well run. The servings in the restaurant had enormous portions that we could not finish. I would recommend this hotel.

Most of the airport hotels are 'just down the road from the airport'

Sheraton LAX is a nice option, closest hotel to LAX iirc, newly refurbished, nice rooms and the hotel has been refurbished (or at least looks like it). Nice fitness centre overlooking the pool, which also has cabanas so if the weather is nice, you could crash there

I'm with BAM1748 if you are picking up a car drive somewhere else.When flying into LAX this is what we do-usually to Ontario or Camarillo-both places with large factory outlets and mush cheaper hotels.We stay near LAX when flying out.

We are intending to head north the day after we arrive, so Anaheim is sort of in the wrong direction. Also, when we're nearing the end of our trip we will have a couple of days left in LA. We will come in from Las Vegas, and go down to Ahaheim and do the Disneyland thing, then head down to San Diego for a couple of days, then back to LA. Where's the best area to stay to see Universal Studios, Hollywood etc? We will stay near the airport on our last night. Our flight won't leave until 9.20pm. Do some hotels near the airport allow late checkout (around 5pm) for a small fee?

Well actually the Radisson is the closet to the airport, but not to worry.

I actually stay at the Crowne Plaza quite often, for about USD 45 ++ using Priceline.

Due to a delayed flight I had to stay overnight once -- used the Four Points Sheraton. It was fine with just a little aircraft noise from an outside balcony room. Paid walk-up rate of $125 a night.

An important consideration due to the dollar value is transport . Most but not all offer a shuttle.

The only one I have used is the Embassy Suites which had a really great rate at the time. Our aircraft was late in and the shuttle had shut down for the night so they just told me to get a cab and they refunded the fare. They looked after us pretty well also.
