I'm wanting to fly to Europe from Sydney using my US Airways Dividend Miles.

The plan is as follows:

Syd/Bangkok/London
Paris/Bangkok/Sydney

I would like to stop in Bangkok for a few days on the way home but it's been mentioned to me that I can't stop for more than 24hrs without paying more points.

Can anyone advise on whether I can or can't stop over on my way home.

If you fly into and out of London (or Paris) then you can have a stopover in Bangkok either going over or coming back. However if you fly into one city and out of the other (called an open jaw) then you can't have a stopover.

And if choosing to only fly into (and out of) only one city in Europe so that you can have your stop over in Bangkok, it would be cheaper to choose Paris so you don't have to pay the extra taxes to fly out of London...

Yep, I'd definitely be choosing Paris of the two! The train is very nice too and not expensive if you book well in advance.

Thanks for info. I'm going to fly in and out of Paris. Flights to London with BA are cheaper than the train if I book early so lucked it.

How cheap are flights with BA? Must admit to being surprised about that, last time I looked they were much more expensive plus of course you need to add on costs of going to/from airport whereas train goes city to city.

I'm booking for July next year so way in advance. If you can book really early then BA gives really good deals. It's A$91 with BA and 88 pounds with Eurostar. As I'm not stopping in Paris for any length of time on the way over to London I can just hook up with the London flight without having to get to the Eurostar.

I am lucky as where we are staying in UK is not far from Heathrow.

Just a question, if I was to use US miles to book an award in J/F for SYD-LHR, say flying with TG can I stop at BKK twice (3 night stay each)? i.e. outbound and inbound. If not can we pay a fee to do so?

No you can't. One can be a transit of less than 24 hours though.

Ok thanks. So I can stop once for more than 24 hours but the other stop has to be less than 24 hours? Or do I have this incorrect...
