Noise-canceling headphones + microphone

There are several threads on AFF that talk extensively about noise-canceling (noise-cancelling?) or NC headphones. I think this http://www.australianfrequentflyer....ncelling-headphones-best-quality-36776-8.html is the most recent.

I am hoping that you might be able to help with this related query: I would like a set of NC headphones with a microphone (for sitting at a desk rather than travelling).

Ideally it would have:

• over ear (not on-ear, and probably not in-ear)
• active NC
• microphone (PC conference calls, VOIP, Skype, etc)
• replaceable battery

As an example, Bose Aviation headsets has what appears to be perfect...except the price of $1,395.00.

I think there may be other Bose NC headphones with a mic - any comments on them? Lower cost options would be good too

I have a pair of QC15s with a microphone remote for iYokes. The microphone and remote works fine, but the cable itself is very poorly constructed and mine is currently being help together with electrical tape. Given that they cost at least $35, it's not really good enough, particularly since my current cable only lasted a month before starting to fail. The headphones themselves do give good sound and very good noise cancellation.

I do notice that BOSE has a different cable kit that is meant to work with the iYokes. QC®15/QC®2 mobile communications kit - Bose Accessories Has anyone used them? Good/OK/engineered and assembled by kindergartners?

I have gone off Bose for the reason below and don't appreciate getting ripped off with their accessories either!

I wonder if this will work with non i-Thingies? The extra "mobile communications kit" has a selection of different connectors, but it doesn't look like any of them will plug into a PC's standard mic and headphones sockets.

I have a set of Beyerdynamic MMX300's and they are awesome. Not real cheap, but much cheaper than the Bose ones mentioned in the first post. Hint: buy from the website as they will still be cheaper than Australian distributors. I ordered mine on a Thursday night and they arrived from Germany on Monday morning.

a lot of the UltimateEars stuff has in-line mic and even controls for iStuff

Buy a Mac?

The microphone and iPod/iPhone controls on my Bose QC3s (and presumably the QC15s) work just fine with my Mac for Skype calling, etc.

Not sure about a PC.

According to some reviews on amazon I saw today, the mobile communications kit I linked to works on all mobiles but is just a microphone. No buttons.

Have tried to use the iYoke controls when plugged into my Dell laptop without success (the audio came through fine though). Is probably an Apple only thing. The headphones do come with a standard plain cord as well.
