Which begs the question - what ID would you show? Staff ID pass (which often is just your name+face with no reference to who you actually work for...)?

A lot of gov ID indicates the government in some way. Most WA hospitals have a gov logo on the ID card, and the police ones to do I think.

My wife's pass here (UK Gov) doesn't. I guess could always used a payslip, although not ideal.... I wonder if I could/should be using the Gov rate when my wife stays?

Which begs the question - what ID would you show? Staff ID pass (which often is just your name+face with no reference to who you actually work for...)?

I have an ID card with the organisation's name on it, as well as company business cards. I have never been asked, but I always travel with both so am ready if needed.

Just to weigh in on the ID chat, all mine contains organization markings etc.

Check your intranet if you have one erk? My organization has some great personal rates negotiated with hire car companies that is buried in our intranet.

Check your intranet if you have one erk? My organization has some great personal rates negotiated with hire car companies that is buried in our intranet.

I have intranet access at an intranet kiosk at strategic locations across the network. Last time I looked, I have access to the intranet for both operators which I have some connection with. But there is no ability to book anything online, even with the long distance operator.

I don't even have access to the intranet of the parent umbrella top level transport organisation.

I have a .gov email address on my HH account. All bookings are made through it. I have never been asked for ID for proof of rate eligibility (I do of course have it if needed). Only asked for ID twice for rates once in PER for my AAA card which I had forgotten (they let me off with it) and once at the Hampton Inn SJU where I was asked for my MVP card
To get back on topic it would be advisable to have some sort of ID as you wouldn't want the govt rate to transform into a rack rate at check-in. Maybe a business card if no photo ID?

I have once been asked to show the ID but I use a private email for bookings rather than Gov't email.

I think she was a bit shocked when I asked how many she needed as I now have 4 as I work at different times for different tiers of Gov't (state and fed) and my wife has 2. All have Gov't logos on the cards and all are photo ID but it does go to show they can and do ask for ID. Personally, I think it's all a crock as even my drivers license has a photo and the Gov't logo on it, so does that mean I can book Gov't rates on the back of a drivers license alone (if so, add another 5 IDs bringing my total to 9)?

Perth is also the only place in the world I've ever been asked for my AAA card.

I would think the booking needs to be in the name of the person... there was some special rates over here last year that were for UK Civil Servants that we used (booked under me though), but alas we were never asked for any proof on check-in. Would have been interesting though to see how it played out!

I use government rates all the time, I have an ID. I've never been asked for it.

I have been asked for AAA card at Perth , and government ID at Perth, Adelaide and Sydney. Strike rate of being asked only about 3% or so - just depends on which staff member you get i think.

Perhaps, but when I was asked (at HSP), the check-in lady appeared to be clearly reading a file note and then asked me for the ID. I had been using the cheaper Gov't rate fairly often though and for only one night stays (one might be forgiven for thinking mattress running), so I put it down to that.

I have stayed Gold Coast, Sydney, Perth and Melbourne several times on Govt rate; never been asked for ID. I do work for Govt and usually have my pass with me, but have forgotten it on occasion....

I haven't stayed at HSP, but have never been asked at any of the other properties I have stayed. I always carry my ID so it wouldn't worry me if I was asked.
