I didn't have time to read all comments, but my 2c:

Johnnie Walker XR, as a 21 yr old blended whisky is my favourite for expensive tastes and image. It's good value, and impresses. Maybe $160 or 170 at Dan Murphy.

For more discerning palates, or perhaps snobs, a single malt may be preferred. I'm a fan of Glenfiddich Solera Reserve myself, typically 18 years old.

Any aged Glenmorangie is typically worth it.

Others have touted Laphroaig and Lagavulin. In my pretty extensive experience, these are for more discerning palates. They are quite off-putting to casual drinkers, and best avoided. I like both, but only occasionally.

I'm a bit of an aficionado (imho). My favourite was a Sovereign at 48 years old, for reference.

I like Whisky, but I don’t appreciate it to the level I do with wine. I picked up a bottle of Glenmorangie a while back, while there is no doubt I’d enjoy it - I’m curious if it’s worth selling to fund a premium red wine I would get more pleasure from. How do I find out what it is worth?
