Having had handles ripped off suitcases I put mine inside a nice new white short sock and pinned with a nappy pin onto the inside pocket. That worked very well.

So if I'm reading this correctly if someone stole my luggage they would just have to disable the airtag and then it's no longer trackable.

Disable it, take it out and chuck it in a river, hit it with a hammer. That's why I wrote to place it somewhere discrete, such as in the suitcase lining.

Although I think the major use for them & luggage these days it to find which airport its at!!

Well we decided to go with Apple airtags.
Yesterday tried to buy them. In Australia they have to be delivered. no instore purchase or pick up. Projected delivery date 8/8 - a week after we leave. Apple chat hopeless and couldn't suggest anything else.
Then remembered an Apple Store in Jewel Changi. Went online and you can pick them up there. So ordered the pack of 4. If not engraved could pick them up tomorrow but I went with the free engraving so could pick them up in 4 days time.

Not worried for the BNE - SIN flight but would like the tags for the SIN - LHR flight.

Wow! I bought some in store last week and two days ago ordered four more that will be delivered next week. Already shipped! Either I have been very lucky or you unlucky.

Apple website says you can buy today and pick up your airtags at Apple Store Brisbane or order by 2pm and have them delivered qithin 2hrs fopr $15.

Maybe give Apple store a call?

Ordered same date as you (15 Jul). Mine were delivered Wed 21 July - but I'm in Newcastle so they went to Sydney first.

Bugga. I meant to get some and completely forgot. I can order now for pickup in Sydney CBD tomorrow (my local is Bondi but pickup is Wednesday - after I fly…). If they have them at SYD T1, I might get them there or the Jewel on the way home!

My radiator started leaking on a northern highway this afternoon. . Had to have it towed to be repaired - I’d just booked it’s 5000 k service less than 2 hours earlier. Anyway being Sunday it was closed. It’s not in a great area of town so inserted an apple AirTags in the event of a ‘misadventure’. I can see it’s still where I left it. It was drivable if you didn’t care about blowing up the engine. Sigh. Towing etc was all free thanks to RAA membership. Cat was in the car and driver took me in the tow truck while cat stayed in the car.

Actually, the keyless entry ones can be hacked. There’s a growing market in 3rd party immobilisers…

Well, according to Ch 7 - so it must be true… Or just an advertorial for the immobiliser guy…

Most cars these days have rolling codes which make it much harder for RFID hackers.

Edit: They would probably open the door with the RFID hacking and steal the Apple AirTag and the rest of the valuable contents.

Agree but it's psychological security. We took everything out, even a pillow to make it less inviting to break a window. But there are still the keyers and the grafitists. Idtios. And so on. It does have a very sensitive and noisy car alarm which frightens the bejeesus out of me. Touching the door handles without the key sets it off. Apple air tag was hidden. It's still where I left it.
