Sydney - it was just announced... that cluster just keeps on giving!

The article I saw said they were linked to Sydney but none had recently travelled to Sydney.
Has this narrative changed?

Aren't they supposed to quarantine? In which case it should be ok. But if they didn't self quarantine then well, and this was from a Sydney not the NB? Sorry, I don't tweet.

Yes there was a wave of people who were allowed to self isolate so could be one of those. Hope they did... but clearly some did not (surprise surprise) as it’s been hinted that people that should be isolating from Sydney must have seen some people..

The Croydon cluster is really worrying as they are actually from all over Sydney. Could have gone anywhere.

A lot is going to depend on whether these 3 cases are say from people living with isolating returnees/visitors from NSW or whether they are just close contacts of returnees/visitors from NSW who have been out and about.

The former may see minimal cases, the latter who knows....

When people on SA have been properly self isolating and then develop Covid, this is usually stated upfront. Has there been no mention that they'd done the right thing?

Authorities in South Australia are urging residents to reconsider travelling to NSW.

In a statement released a short time ago, SA Police warned restrictions may be imposed at short notice.

When people on SA have been properly self isolating and then develop Covid, this is usually stated upfront. Has there been no mention that they'd done the right thing?

I think you are jumping the gun as there has been no official report, and precious little time to investigate or form a reasoned opinion. It appears from the rumours that they were close contacts and if so may not have had to self-isolate. I doubt SA, NSW or any jurisdiction states it upfront as soon as a test result is achieved, and if they did they would just be guessing.

But rather such a report/statement may come after enough initial contact tracing has been done, and with time to cross check. ie With the recent mother and positive daughter who returned from Avalon their mobile records were checked to validate what they had said re their movements was so.

From what we are guessing the swabs were probably taken sometime this morning and the test results known later today. If so there will have been very little time for meaningful contact tracing to have been completed by the time that reports started coming out.


By the morning we will no doubt get a much more detailed official run through. Though there are already location alerts out.

PS. Though the Gov are acting very quickly with all known close contacts already isolating, location alert up on the DHHS website etc.

1) Kill your New Year’s Eve celebrations
2) But it’s ok go to the cricket and celebrate with 20,000 others instead.

In normal years Sydney gets well over 1m into the CBD to watch the fireworks.
No allocated seating, lots of alcohol and mixing.

And plenty of suburban shopping centres would have had way more than 20,000 through their doors every day since Boxing Day - indoors, mulling around, trying on clothes.
Far more risky than an outdoor seated event at limited capacity.

I think a large concern for large outdoor gatherings is the public transport to and from which tends to be sardine like.

Two women in their 40s and one woman in her 70s have tested positive to the virus, in the suburbs of Mitcham, Hallam and Mentone. All three are in isolation.

Extensive contact tracing is currently underway to more than 40 primary close contacts of the three women and three high risk locations have been identified, Victoria's Commander of COVID-19 response Jeroen Weimar said tonight.

An ongoing list of exposure sites will be updated live on Victoria's Department of Health & Human Services website here.
It is believed that the cases may be linked to a recent outbreak of cases in New South Wales.
Mr Weimar said Victoria state was deploying its full outbreak plan.

"We have three cases that are self-isolating at home and are being supported and monitored by the Department of Health and Human Services," Mr Weimar said.

"We have been in this position before and we are deploying our full outbreak approach around these cases.

"Extensive contact tracing is underway and as a result there are currently more than 40 primary close contacts that are being supported to isolate immediately."

Based on Weimar's past press conferences the 40 primary close contacts will all have been compelled to isolate.

No mention of whomever the NSW close contacts were and their status and whereabouts. ie They could be part of the 40 or even back IN NSW etc..

PS self-isolating at home does not mean a lot as anyone in Vic who gets must self-isolate till test results are known and for 14 days if positive.

Having just been tested this week that requirement was made very clear during the testing, and with a link on what to do in an SMS immediately on having been tested.
