You'd think by now that people organising interstate events would know the risks they are taking. Certainly in WA, the plug has been pulled on quite a few.

Who is saying they don’t…business like life goes on, doesn’t mean the border closures are any less of a headache..

How's the QR scanning in ACT from what you see?

Mr FM went shopping today. Chemist Warehouse had a security guard checking so 100% compliance. Neither the markets nor Coles were doing any checking and as a rough guesstimate he felt maybe a third were checking in.

Coles are extremely poor in SA too. Just a couple of QRs at the entrance and then nothing. I don't think Woollies is much better. Have been asked in smaller stores recently if I'd checked in.

The smaller places seem more involved. Been to Reptile Park, Canberra Zoo and Dinosaur Museum in the last week and they were immaculate at checking everyone.

Well come Monday Coles will get into gear in NSW - new and improved (enhanced) mandatory QR check in requirement. In NSW used to be just hospitality and some other group, now all retail.

Have to say the woolies & Coles here in Melbourne that I visit are really poorly controlled, I'd guess 50% max checkin.
I sort of just go about my business, checkin everywhere & don't always notice others cos then I'd get angry & want to throw pear or at times a watermelon at them....it's so bloody easy to do. oh well.

I just went and checked our rules and retail is only mandatory from 15 July - I thought it was already. Be interesting to see if it improves next week. I just checkin whenever I see a code these days - can’t get it wrong that way.

I support check in and do it but I note I have closer physical contact with people cramming around you to also "snap" the QR code. So for me this is the way I am most likely to get it in an enclosed space.

Being retired we tend to shop at non peak hours so it hasn’t been too much of an issue for us, but yes I could imagine in peak periods using the checkin for retail could be difficult.

Shopping at Woolworths in Launceston on Monday they now have more prominent QR signs.Still no one in front of me checked in but at least the woman behind me did.

I am waiting to see what happens monday with store checkins when it comes to those of us who will rely on using a pen to do this.

I find the QLD ones much worse. They don't seem to work on an angle.

I find the QLD and NSW apps both consistently very fast and easy, maybe this is phone-dependent.

I used to have terrible issues with the Vic ones. It took me a while to realise there was a huge difference between using my phone's native 'Scan QR code' function and using the function within the Service Vic app. The former could take seconds to not at all...the latter finds the QR code instantly.

I'll put it out there....could NSW, in partic. Sydney, be the first state /city in Oz that cannot eliminate the virus , forcing us to "live" with the virus

Our modeling suggests this is a very strong possibility now.

Of course, we have models saying just about anything… but Sydney is now in a worse position than at the early stages for Taiwan and South Korea recently (in terms of infection numbers, not outcomes).

It's going to be a very 'brave' government that decides to 'let it rip' at this level of vaccination. I suspect there will be a lot of questions at today's press conference about Hazzard's comments yesterday...will be interesting to see if he can keep a lid on his temper, or Gladys will take those ones and walk back yesterday's statement.

If you look at the context and the tone all all the speakers, including the usually very upbeat Kerry Chant, they were all indicating this situation is getting worse not better, and Brad's comments were probably more along the line of "if it continues to get worse it will get to a point where no lockdown will be able to slow it down". The comments were a warning, not a plan.

Couple this with the requests for more federal help in place of Jobseeker. In short, NSW residents can't afford a longer lockdown. If there is not adequate welfare they may have no choice but to reopen. The health outcomes of most of the elderly being vaccinated will not have the same result as Melbourne last year.

I've spoken to a lot of friends in NSW recently and the brutal truth is I think a lot of people support the open up and let it ride approach. If it means closure to the rest of Australia so be it, but that could be offset by being open to UK, Europe & the US.
