Last September, in a move that extinguished any hope of hot meals returning to coach, [United] removed the rear galleys — including the oven — from its MD-80 aircraft and replaced them with four seats. That change, the airline told The Washington Post, will be worth an additional $34 million a year

Even more reason then to keep using YUP fares domestically in the US. At least you get a semi decent meal....

And their food has been improving... Still way too much fat in some of the meals though. Wasn't offered pizza on any of my flights last time, instead they were relatively speaking decent meals for an airline.

Unless flying outside meal times, when even flying in the Premium Economy cabin, oops I mean the First Class cabin, all you will get is a bowl of hot nuts (even for flights >3 hrs).

I agree, very disappointing. A drink and a bag of pretzels for a 3.5 hr evening flight (ORD-LAS) in AA's 'First' just doesn't cut it.

Have never been able to take the hot nuts seriously after seeing 'Jarhead'...

Yeah I know. Actually, I was offered it once - NYC-NRT, but that wasn't F, so I didn't count it

They did have a brie cheese called "President Wee" though, which I found a little amusing.

And i feel sad that i have never been offered a cheese pizza yet. Very few AA flights though. Next year i have few, lets hope they have not decided to stop offering such wonderful food

You can (nearly) always pick one up in the terminal and eat it onboard... Only a couple of airports I've visited in the US didn't have a pizza place (or two,three,four or five[dfw]) of some description.

Although, I really couldn't get over the fact you can buy anything from expensive cosmetics, to an Ipod to a mobile phone via vending machines at some airports!

I've found AA in F generally have a Cheese or Non-Cheese option. Most pasta/pizza/omelet type dishes are smothered in melted/(semi-)congealed cheese. The other options generally utilise cheese somewhat less as an ingredient. :shock:

I've had it twice now in AA first and it really was quite edible. This in itself is rather novel for airline food :!:
