CX Check-in times at SYD

I'm flying on CX138 (the overnight service) to HKG on the first of January and was wondering when CX open up check-in for this service? I have a good friend departing SYD at 4pm and would like to spend some time with him airside and in the F lounge.

I know on the CX site it says check-in opens 3 hours before, but given that CX have services depart at four times during the day, I was hoping that they might be open and accepting baggage earlier in the day? Does anyone have any experience with this?

CX were very helpful for me once when I was in the same situation, but I think it could be a case of YMMV. It's worth a shot, anyway. Is there any way that you can travel HLO? Because then there will be no issue.

No way I can travel HLO unfortunately. And I really don't want to be stuck in a situation of trying and then being turned down, then being stuck in limbo for a few hours.
