How long before we see a zero bag policy introduced?

With Ryanair trialling a zero bag policy for certain flights, I wonder how long it will take before JQ, DJ & TR introduce a similar policy. It would make perfect sense on some of the early morning flights.

They may take a wait and see attitude, although I am not sure that in the case of Tiger they are targetting business travellers.

While I can understand the desire to reduce ground handling costs, it is always a bit of a worry that they push people to use more and more carry-on. There's plenty enough of that on many flights now, without forcing it to be the only option!

I would hope that this type of policy is not implemented in Australia. There is not enough overhead storage on some DJ flights now. If they stopped people checking in luggage where are they going to get the extra overhead space to fit all the carry on? Or do they expect travellers to bring nothing with them even when they go away for a week?

I can't see this happening in Australia in the near future, especially not with DJ who are doing their best to distance themselves from the LCC tag more appropriately associated with JQ or TR

Yes I don't think it will happen here, unless there was some kind of 'Business Lite fare' or the like introduced....?

Well who would have believed the USA would go (for the most part) to a zero bag policy - but most of their carriers did. Never say never in this game.
JQ already have a defacto zero bag policy - cheaper fare if no bags, so anything is possible.
One of them will come up with some sort of harebrained idea like 10kg bag free, then maybe $20 for an extra 10kilo allowance or something.

Virgin are introducing a fee for checked baggage on the lower fares. You can check in one bag up to 23kgs and it will cost an extra $8 if you prepay or $20 if you pay at chek-in. Excess baggage over this allowance will cost $6/kilo.
