I don't want my kids sitting next to a man on a plane

Yet another man hate article based on sexual stereotypes. Why this type of misandry is allowed to be published is beyond me. However, it needs to be exposed and called out.

I know it's sexist. But I don't want my kids sitting next to a man on a plane.

Sure, almost 90 per cent of child sexual abuse is committed by someone in, or known to, the family, according to the Australian Bureau of Statistics.

It's an old and oft repeated canard but because the accused is male it's apparently acceptable.

I saw that article earlier - have a look at the comments; Its not often you read such and agree with every one; I think every one of them as at 11am this morning were derisive of the article.

apart from the obvious stereotypes/sexism 'can of worms'....it's just another example of how a minority (the law breakers)...affects the freedoms of the majority ( the law abiders) ... I also wonder if these 'precious' children are allowed to take a train or bus by themselves.. (or for that matter walk anywhere!! unsupervised)..and if they do..do these 'hoverparents' demand action/assurance from bus/train transport companies and councils that no male will be seated next to them/walk near them?? :shock: .. yet you have no problem shunting your child and 'parenting' onto an airline
will they insist that no male F/As come 'near' or even talk to their child during the flight...hey...sexual offenders have all sorts of jobs!! and are FEMALE too!!! :shock: .... how far does 'political correctness' have to go???

please note...I am by NO MEANS implying male F/As are sexual offenders..just proving a point of how ridiculous the world has become

I have to say, Im not that excited about sitting next to a child (Unaccomanied or not) on a plane, had this thrust upon me a few times, frankly NOT a fan.
its right up there with being told I need to move (and seperate from my spouse/travelling companion) to accomodate a family that can't get their act together with bookings and planning and need my carefully planned and organised seat .

You know what, I find these sort of article absolutely offensive. I mean what if I was to write a flimsy piece on how I wouldn't want my kids to be on a bus driven by a woman? I'm sure if I looked hard enough I could even come up with some sort of evidence (real or "statistical") which supports my theory about how they would be safer with a male bus driver.

I would hope that the airline would be keeping an eye on a UM regardless of who was sitting next to them... I also believe that the UM shadow even overrides even the WP shadow.

I should point out, don't get me wrong, I don't want anyone who could be a danger to my kids anywhere near my kids, but I am also trying really hard to protect them from the "all men are dangerous" crowd. As someone who had many positive male role models (through both scouts and school) when growing up, I would hate for my kids not to trust a member of my gender just because he is a man.

It's not just the kids which are affected either, I still vividly remember a few years ago when I came across a lost child in the local mall. I helped him find his mother. Do you think the mother said "oh thank you for helping him?", nope, I got an absolute earful from the overly suspicious mother. As a result, as much as I hate it, if I saw a lost child again (and my wife wasn't with me), I'd probably wouldn't help the child, for fear of the label which may be assigned to me, and that I think is probably the saddest part of the "all men are potential rapists" outcries you get.

I don't like the stereotyping either, however, don't you think the statement you've made; "yet you have no problem shunting your child and 'parenting' onto an airline" is a kind of wild assumption to make? There are any number of reasons why a child would need to fly unaccompanied.

NB: If (god forbid) a sexual predator ever finds their way to one of your own, you will change your opinion so fast, your head will spin!

I am well aware of the many reasons why UMs fly..and I have been a UM in my past...but with all due respect..i think you missed my point (read my post in its FULL context)...and the point of others on here

The suprising bit of the article for me was "Virgin has expanded its unaccompanied minors program to include seating in business class". What?! I don't want Spicer's children sitting in J while I'm sitting in row 3. Now my own children, well that's a different matter. Beautifully behaved.

Yeah, look. Just because I'm female, doesn't mean I like kids. I will go out of my way to avoid being near kids. Trust me, your kid would probably be far better off sitting next to a family friendly male than they would be sitting next to me.

Yes. That's an excellent point. Fine with my kids but other people's?

It's like when I was on a ride p) at HK Disneyland. A local lady decided she'd put her two girls next to me (at the front) while she and her husband enjoyed a large seat on their own. Thankfully her husband and the security guy had more sense. I wonder if she'd have done that if I was a male?

However I have known of women being sacked for no better reason than they were 6 months pregnant (or similar) and going on maternity leave. One in particular was dreadful. Just wish they'd taken it further.

Exactly.Being a grandfather I don't mind sitting next to kids-UM or not.Has happened quite a bit when I am flying for work and by myself.If I say so myself I am rather good at calming tantrums on planes.
