That would be the official line. But does it happen in practice?
 
nope, Jetstar cards have always been Macquarie. maybe you're thinking of the second lot of Virgin cards.
 
There seems to be a continuing theme of people reading the condition about no points for government fees and charges as applying to payments to the government. That clause is about government fees and charges on the credit card account, for example stamp duty, financial institutions duty. Not payments with the card to government entities.

At the moment I can't think of any government fees and charges that apply to such accounts.

This is very true but then again at least one bank has interpreted fees and charges as including ATO in the past. I agree with your interpretation and so do most banks.

I've missed that bank. But I was aware there have been a few card providers who have introduced lower/(possibly no) earning for ATO/rates/etc.
 
I've had my Woolworths Qantas card fee waived for the last two years but unless this generosity continues I will be unable to justify using it following the switch to Macquarie. It's simply there as an adjunct to my main bank Amex/Visa cards to use for more points when Amex can't be used. Any more suggestions for a good value card (Mastercard) which generates QF points at a reasonable annual fee? Bonus offers now seem to attach to EDR card and only occasional double points Woolworths Qantas card so I won't miss that.

Sorry, I can see how that could be confusing. I was replying to the "but does it happen in practice" in relation to whether Macquarie Bank interpret the "Government Fees and Charges" statement as including ATO payments.
I said no, Jetstar Mastercard (issued by Macquarie) does not interpret the statement that way, and DOES pay points on ATO payments.
 
if you really care about Mastercard, dunno, but if Visa is ok, Citibank Signature is hard to beat.

Thanks for the hint. Applied for Citi Signature and have the card in my hand, authorised and ready to use in less than 3 days! No annual fees, the chance of some free wine and QFF points for $40 less than Woollies card per year!:)

If your balance was very low that would seem a good move, but if you use the card a lot, it may be worth stopping and thinking it through....
I have cleared my balance and cancelled all standing charges, but I have until December before Macquarie will charge a fee.
Sso I'll cancel before then, but only after I am credited with my outstanding 7500 QFF points!

Thanks for that, I'll check out when I'm due to pay the new charge. We only use these cards when we can't use an Amex card and it is always paid in full on the due billing date. I had an issue with macquarie a few years ago that left a sour taste in my mouth and makes me not want to use them. As per another post I'll investigate Citibank cards.
