This card is said to have a good exchange rate (?). I had an idea the limit was a bit low for a 12 month trip, which would be OK if you pay in frequently.
Re travel insurance not from a cc, if in doubt about particular items of cover, I email the companies to get an answer in writing, and take a copy of that with me. Also, be aware that ins co's won't cover you in case of an accident if say you hire a motor bike/scooter and you don't hold a licence for that back here.
