Interesting if true. I've always considered jumping ship as my significant other only uses Star Alliance for work. I'm stuck in my own little Oneworld patch This could be a game changer for me as I'm happy doing Y+ for now and I've never had the inclination until now to try Singapore Air. J is too much and Y is not an option when travelling on my own. Y+ is the sweet spot. We've always wanted to experience Lufthansa in F from Frankfurt to JFK. Not a big fan of middle eastern hubs so that rules out Emirates, and as they say once you've had the best you can't go back........ but I draw the line at Virgin I'm QFd all the way.

Interesting that on the 777 the space has come from all three classes whereas on the 380 it's all from Y. F is down to just 4 seats on the 777 now. I wonder if next step will be to drop F completely on the 777.

hopefully not too late for QF to relent and fit Y+ on some of the 330s? otherwise they'll have been wrong footed again, SIN to SYD and MEL particularly could do with something to help with yields as Scoot drags prices down.

Interesting - that would explain the fubar handling by SQ of my Preferred Seat booking in economy over the weekend. I booked a SIN-LHR-SIN flight and associated Exit Row window seat (44K, from memory) on Friday lunchtime. On Saturday morning, I got an e-mail saying that my seat allocation had been changed. I logged back in and the Exit Row has changed from Row 44 to Row 47, which would make sense if they've re-numbered everything due to the introduction of PE. However, for reasons unknown, and despite the Exit Row being empty, SQ weren't intelligent enough just to switch me from 44K to 47K. They'd assigned my 47H instead..... I changed it back online and now all I need to do is get SQ to refund the duplicate Seat Fee that they charged me for reverting to the window seat I'd booked in the first place.........

If you've booked Preferred Seats in Y on the legs where PE will be introduced (or even just a regular seat in Y), I'd strongly recommned being pro-active and checking regularly to make sure your Seat Allocation has stuck.........

The hard product looks seriously underwhelming - very much Economy Plus and not Business Minus. I prefer the look of the Scoot Biz seat to this.

Is this is the market standard for Y+ I cannot understand why people would pay a significant premium for it over SQ's already excellent Y except where travel policies extend to Y+ but not J. I assume a return SYD-SIN-LHR Y+ will run about $4,000? Not worth it IMO.

I'm not impressed either, considering the premium you would have to pay as well. The seats for Scoot Biz are better and cheaper fare.

I though that the main reason SQ held out on offering PE for so long was because they were worried about it cannibalising their J sales. So maybe it's a deliberate thing for them to make the offering more E+ than J-.

Of course, a publicity photo isn't the best way to judge the product. It'll also be interesting to see what price they do end up charging for it.

Agree. Sure that they didn't want to make it too big or with too much seat pitch

It'll also be interesting to see what price they do end up charging for it.

I've also noticed that the price in the column heading is cheaper than any combination of flight I select (for any ticket involving two flights, such as Sydney to Tokyo).

Those prices are actually pretty decent. I could imagine it being pretty popular for Australia to Europe flights.

Overall, I probably still wouldn't pay for it. SQ Y is already a pretty good product (old 772s excluded) and I have *G already so some of the Y+ benefits are superfluous. Still, if it's a small premium, I'd be willing to give it a go.

MEL-SIN doesn't have PE, but SYD-SIN does.

Is there a way to use SYD as a transit point in my booking? SQ call centre staff just get confused, and VA say they don't codeshare on the SIN-HKG route.

Any tips? Or should I just book MEL-SYD, and then SYD-SIN-HKG separately at greater cost?

My other question is: if I book a PE fare, and one leg is in Y, is that considered a flexi economy fare? Or is it still a PE fare?

Found the answer to this one: yes, indeed the economy leg falls into E class, which is grouped under 'full fare economy'.
