Hey folks,

I booked an LAX - SYD roundtrip on QA traveling from May 28 - June 18. I got a decent ($1020/average) for a family of 4. I was thinking of upgrading to business with points. The upgrade to business is about 100K per person return (I know it is a lot) but I am fine with it. I have not transferred the points yet as I see this message when I click on Request an upgrade - "Upgrade not available for fair type not eligible". Is this because I purchased these tickets that were on sale? Been a while since I've taken my family on vacation so wanted to treat them a bit. Thanks in advance.

Ray.

The cheapest Qantas fares (which are not always available on a flight) are indeed not upgradable with points.

They are generally tagged as “sale” fares in the online booking system.

Looks like you may have booked one of those.

When you look at “manage booking” for these flights in a browser, what is their booking class (will be a 1 character code attached each individual leg)

You are correct it was on sale. I called them too, apparently, I have to pay an extra cancellation fee plus the additional cost for a normal fair. That will make me eligible for the points upgrade smh. Oh well. It's a night flight I'll give the kids Nyquil and I shall get some liquid courage so that all will be fine when we land in Sydney :)
