Qantas Club MEL

I'm flying ADL -MEL-CNS this Sunday. ADL - MEL leg arrives 08:30, MEL - CNS departs 09:10.

Not familiar with MEL airport, is it likely the Qantas Club in Melbourne will be close to the departure gates for my CNS flight? Wouldn't mind dropping in for a coffee during stop over and assume I'll have time for one?

MELd QP/J lounge would be a messy work site as it is.
I think that there is limited room as it is.
Have a look at MEL airport website, it would have maps.
Its a right hand turn after domestic security, facing the food court.
Turn right, go to a set of sliding doors on the left hand side, before the stair case going down to gates 15-23.
Edit: if your MEL - CNS is with JQd, no chance.

Have to download it from the website, watch for the little arrow down as it comes out as a pdf.
JQd goes from T4 I believe, and it will take a bit more than that 40mins to get from T4 to T1 and back.
If your flight is with QF, then you do have a chance, but will probably have to rush out in and out.

There's not really any way to predict it. The last three QF702s left from gate 2, 3 and 24.

Chances are you probably will be in the same concourse connection (eg: Gates 1-12) but you could have to pass the QC to get to 21+

but assuming things are on time that is bugger all time to drop by and maybe pick up a take away coffee. I'd say you'd look at say 15ish minutes which is enough time to get to the lounges and back to whichever gate but not much time to do more than a pit stop IMHO and if there's a delay well you could be rushing to the next gate.

There's a chance your ADL-MEL 737 could turn to the CNS flight(ie: same gate), but only a small one. Either way i wouldn't expect a lot of time to spend at the lounges.. which yes are under construction but should be fine to drop in to grab a quick bite or a pit stop. Note restrictions on guests for QC and Golds if you're travelling with someone. Apparently applies to Sunday mornings too which seems odd to me. My last few times there it's been fairly empty at those sorts of hours, but I digress.

Pooch, why comment on domestic security when the OP is on a connecting flight? It's not terribly relevant.

Edit: ah, I see your point, er, its the opposite to my description above, eh, left hand hook turn from concourse 1 at MEL QFd, if coming from gate 1 to 14, up set of marble stairs... keep going and just before the set of going down marble stairs, on the left hand side is the sliding doors.

OP says he/she isn't very familiar with QF MEL domestic.
There is only one security screening point in MEL domestic, and if you know where that is, its hard to get lost!
Having checked JQd schedule, the times as quoted by OP is only QF flights.

The lounges are roughly between the two gate concourses.. that's the main thing to note. You're looking at around a 5-6 minute walk from the furtest gates 11/12 and prob 4-5min from gate 23/24 oh the other - obviously depending on how fast one walks

Note that it should be easy at the moment.

Since the lounge is undergoing renovation, there is a snack station at the entrance before the escalators going up where you can get a coffee and perhaps a muffin.

It can be even more than the normal zoo at times. I think they underestimated how many members there are as opposed to guests. J lounge is often packed as well.

Surprisingly the J Lounge isn't too bad tonight - but it is mid week. I have seen it standing room only on Fridays. It will be good once the works are done on the QP side, and they get around to re-doing the J side

You've all probably seen this but just got this email from Qantas, looks like it will be a grab and go for me. (Thanks again for all the replies to my post).

We're excited to be redeveloping our Domestic Lounges in Melbourne Airport, with construction on our new Qantas Club underway.

To make way for the upgraded lounges, the current Qantas Club will be reduced in size during construction. Customer space will be limited and there will be some temporary changes to guest access policy in the Melbourne Qantas Club.

Qantas Gold Frequent Flyers and Qantas Club members will be able to access the Melbourne Qantas Club, however no guests will be permitted during peak hours (from 5am through to 9am and from 3pm through to 7pm). At all other times Qantas Club normal guest access policy applies, subject to lounge availability.

Paper and digital complimentary invitations are unable to be used at Melbourne Qantas Club during this period.

A Grab and Go offering will be available during construction, providing easy and convenient access to a selection of coffee and light snacks.

We appreciate your patience during the construction period this year and look forward to welcoming you into our new lounge.

So bad in J lounge the other day that MrP walked in, and out! Quieter in the terminal. Not really good enough esp for those who have paid up for membership (and which of course FF do by their patronage).

I was in Melbourne QC last night for a over an hour as my flight was delayed and despite having a flex ticket I couldnt get on an earlier flight. They didn't appear to be enforcing the no guest restriction as there were lots of kids in the QC and I doubt those kids hold QC membership in their own right or are gold - so must have been guests of parents.

I always need to allow more time in Melbourne than in Sydney to get from the QC to the gate, as Melbourne is much more spread out i.e. no gate is opposite the lounge whereas in Sydney often the gate is directly opposite.

Kids are not counted in terms of entry to the QC... they are not considered guests (unless over 18) so not that relevant really.
