i think that 3.5 hour is pretty alright, total flight time 15.5hr. They have another alternative flight which has total flight time of 26.5hr with a 14.5hr layover lol...

PR is perfectly fine! flat bed. For the price it’s an absolute bargain.

or there's Royal brunei for $1,469 from KL to Melbourne (overnight)

Having done both I’d probably choose PR. Although BI is quite comfortable enough in J on the 787 the seats are 2-2-2 and it’s a dry airline. The lounge at BWN was quite decent but I believe they have a new one now.
The PR J product is probably a little better IMO and the food and beverages are ok. PR opened their new lounge at MNLo my a few months ago and looks a massive improvement on the old terrible lounge
