i think if you put a $500 diamond next to a $5,000 one you will notice the difference though. I also like the way real stones/pearls last (if looked after). I have some rings that belonged to grandparents and the rings are now 70 years old and just as beautiful. My daughters have already divvied up my jewellery and I like the idea that my grandchildren and great grandchildren will one day wear my things and maybe know where they came from!

I don't disagree about old jewellery. It was quality and not expensive like today.

But yes it is a taste thing. We are simple people. We don't need to show off $5,000 diamond rings. Or at least I don't. Wife thinks slightly differently and I will buy her I nice engagement ring and wedding ring as promised.

My engagement ring was about $110 from memory - we were poor students! A friend's daughter has just become engaged with a ring that was about $12,000. I did end up with a new engagement ring as I lost the original one when I put it away safely on the way to hospital for the birth of our first child. Think I have said that before

I love shoes but because I have a short, fat food I can rarely find anything comfortable.

I have long narrow feet and I view trying to find anything to fit as akin to entering a torture chamber Better these days, but when I was young and people had much smaller feet than me, it was particularly bad

My engagement ring has a tragic story attached to it.

It first belonged to my cousin's mother-in-law and she died in a plane crash, so my cousin inherited it. Then my cousin was killed by her husband (and their two little girls), in a murder/suicide. My Aunt inherited all the jewellery, but as my cousin was an only child, you can imagine my Aunt's feelings. She knew I had no engagement ring and asked if I wanted to buy it - because of exchange rate differences it meant I got a very good deal and the ring was later valued in Australia for about 4 times what I paid for it.

Some people would view the ring as "unlucky". I don't (I have had it for 25 years now) - I don't wear it around the house as it is too big, but I remember my cousin and my Aunt (who died 2 years ago), whenever I put it on.

no kind of avoiding the shoe thing. . Leaving it until after Christmas - I do have a pair of sandals that I bought for a niece's wedding 10 years ago that might do - just can't find them at the moment, but I am sure I still have them somewhere .

Deciding on jewellery to wear is more fun - I think this one is a definite - colour matches the dress.

it was my retirement present to myself . Diamonds. It should pick up reflection from the dress and get even more colour. I figure with a bit of luck no one will look at my feet - maybe I can go shoeless, or is that a step too far?

Yes the halo ones are pink diamonds - just little ones. I found my sandals - I think they would do? Lot higher heel than I normally wear, so I will have to practise if I don't want to fall flat on my face

Those are really pretty and a sensible height as well! I have taken note for my next shopping trip to Sydney.

Mrscove thinks the Melbourne store is better than the Sydney one.
Getting passed by a lady in ultra high heels seemed impossible but it has happened more than once. Balance and speed.....wow.

I love to visit Peter Shepard though I have never bought shoes there as I haven't needed any when browsing. I like shopping in Singapore as people seem to have small feet there.
There's always Frawleys here FM but their offerings are probably a little grandmotherly. :mrgreen:

Canberra is pretty hopeless for shopping - I have just about given up and just look in Sydney when we are there. We tend to go multiple times a year to see Dr FM and/or a show.

This is a new shoe shop for me, although I do a lot of shopping at Westfields in Sydney - clearly I blank out any shoe shops

I didn't realise there was a Peter Sheppard in Sydney - have seen the one in Brisbane and in Melbourne, though when in Sydney I am mostly with MrL_t_L and he tends to get a bit impatient when I dawdle.
