Southwest becomes launch customer for 737MAX

Dec. 13 (Bloomberg) -- Southwest Airlines Co. became the first carrier to order Boeing Co.’s 737 MAX, purchasing 150 of the more-efficient planes and 58 other 737 jets with a combined value of at least $17.6 billion.
MAX deliveries will start in 2017, and the deal includes options for 150 more, Southwest said today in a statement. Airlines typically buy at a discount to the list price, which is $84.4 million for the 737-800 model and hasn’t been announced for the MAX.

Huge order and if I remember correctly, Southwest were one of the launch customers for the 737NG.

I thought that AA was the first carrier to order the 737MAX?

Amazed that they have orders for 350 aircraft and 242 options :shock:

AA made a commitment, Southwest are the first to get a production slot! Apparently by year end they are going to be close to 1000 orders/options, with commitments and orders presently Boeing is already over 900 for the MAX:

With the Southwest order, the Boeing 737 MAX family has orders and commitments for more than 900 aircraft from 13 customers, while he Next-Generation 737 family has won orders for more than 6,600 aircraft and Boeing has delivered more than 3,800.
