Rydges is clearly ideal but can be a but pricey - anyone know of any good promo codes / specials out there?

Otherwise, a littler farther away, has anyone stayed at the CKS Hotel? How hard is it to get an Uber on a weekday morning for the short trip to the terminal?

The Novotel Sydney Airport has had a major refurb but is further away from the terminal. Mrscove and I are part of an investor group in this one as well as the new Veriu at Green Square Station.

Yes you hit it first go. We invested with Folkestone which was acquired by CharterHall.
The one called Novotel Sydney Airport has had an excellent renovation and was previously a Hilton then an Accor managed Mercure. Straitman is staying there for one night and a couple of others from AFF I believe for this weekend.
Veriu has tipped a couple out this weekend and they have been moved to the Novotel.

Its hard to beat the convenience of Rydges, as we travel with 4 max size bags plus carry-ons, and love being able to get a good night sleep the night before international flights, and just walk across to check-in. Looking forward to hearing about the other options (not from an investor ). Although next trip, i think we are taking a taxi from Southern Highlands since we have an afternoon flight (should be interesting).

Rydges is convenient for going international and I think Mrscove will do that in November when it is a one night transit and she will be taking Christmas cakes in a second bag to Los Angeles.

Mrscove chose the Novotel Sydney Airport for November as it is a one night stay before she heads to Los Angeles. There is a shuttle.

Value Suites, right next to Green Square station is quite new by the look of it, perfectly good IMO and very easy to get to/from. I used it in June. Rydges has become too costly IMO.

That's actually a good idea - being right next to the station means you don't have to worry about shuttles or Uber in the morning traffic.

Have the returns been good for you? They seem to have a good portfolio of properties in their various funds. The one currently running at 7pc annual return has a lot of government tenants so there should always be good margin in that.

The share price of the management company (Charter Hall) also seems to have done well after the 2007 crash.

Crashes can be opportunities for some and disasters for others.
The hotels start with a 7% yield and with a bit of good fortune someone might buy them on a lower return.

Stayed at the Novotel Sydney Airport on Tuesday night before our CHC flight. Very impressed by the hotel. Being Accor Platinum they looked after us amazingly, firstly upgraded to a Suite and given a choice of welcome packs at reception. We chose the cheese platter and wine and that was delivered up to the room about 10 minutes later. Room was a very decent size and the bed was very comfortable. Can’t comment on breakfast as we went over early to the EK lounge. Taxi cost $12 to the terminal the next morning and only took a few minutes. Very good stay and we normally stay at the Pullman but the Novotel has it covered easily IMO.
We had the Pullman booked for the return but have cancelled it and booked another night at the Novotel

Also appreciated being walking distance to a club and various shops & restaurants. There is also a Meriton Mascot Central

The missus and I stayed at the CKS in Feb before our morning JL departure. (We went MEL-SYD-NRT then KIX-HKG-MEL on QF, JL and CX business using AAdvantage miles for my fortieth.) It was not high-end but the room was spacious and the front desk were very helpful when I reached out and they arranged delivery of a gift basket of gluten-free treats for my wife. We did in fact get an Uber to International with no trouble the next morning.

My parents also just asked to be rebooked there before an upcoming morning flight to PER, despite there being closer places to the Domestic Terminals, because they liked it well enough previously and it's better situated for trains from Wollongong.

Further to this we booked 2 rooms at the Novotel International for last night as we were arriving from CHC late and my parents were heading to China today so it made sense to book 2 rooms and catch up briefly last night. My parents were arriving in the afternoon so we had already arranged with the desk to authorise them to check in under our names. Both rooms were upgraded, both rooms received the welcome drinks and breakfast so I was absolutely stoked as I had never booked 2 rooms before and was under the impression only the room with the Platinum guest would receive those perks. The Novotel has won my business for future trips

They have done a good job with it and I can’t fault the hotel. Obviously have a good arrangement with the airlines also as there were several bus loads of crew staying there (CI, SQ, QR and MH were all there in the time we were there)
Will definitely be our go to hotel for future travel
