Contribution to the development of many industries, contribution to economic prosperity, enriching cultures, food, willingness to work hard and succeed, bond of the family unit, influence in housing.

My view is that they have truly assimilated into Queensland culture and contributed. Unlike other states where there are pockets all over the place. Italian and Greeks have truly contributed to the development of industries and economic prosperity in Queensland. I would also note a large German influence in Queensland. As I many have said before that you can't see something does not mean its non-existent.

Possibly. I feel the biggest issue is the first part of the quote.

There are quite large pockets of Greeks and Italians living in Brisbane. They haven't taken over suburbs though like has happened in Sydney and Melbourne.

Lutwyche area is a central location for Italian families. I've known some people who've worked at Lutwyche shopping centre over the past ~20yrs, and have heard quite a few comments that it would make their work easier if they could speak Italian to many of their customers. </anecdote>

True, although Shopping Centre is not a good description, it always feels more like a retirement home when I am up there. The Queensland office of the Liberal Party has its postal address there as well.

Assimilation is not about acceptance of other cultures, it means, regardless of what cultural background you have, you assimilate to one culture.

Some people assimilate more than others. I'm sure we all know someone who migrated here years ago but still can't speak English. There are people who make life choices based on culture eg not marrying someone outside your culture. There's still Australian people out there who think like Ted Bullpitt (no, I said Bull-pitt) from the 1970's.

I think slightly differently.

The current lot of immigrants have no desire to assimilate. I have no idea why they chose Australia. Perhaps they should have immigrated to Japan, China or India who are more tolerant on immigrants.
