True multiculturalism is where the migrants assimilate and bring something with them to the existing culture.
If that's the case, a lot of Sydney fails because of the latter half of the quote.

It is a combination of things.
Contribution to the development of many industries, contribution to economic prosperity, enriching cultures, food, willingness to work hard and succeed, bond of the family unit, influence in housing.

There are quite large pockets of Greeks and Italians living in Brisbane. They haven't taken over suburbs though like has happened in Sydney and Melbourne.
Lutwyche area is a central location for Italian families. I've known some people who've worked at Lutwyche shopping centre over the past ~20yrs, and have heard quite a few comments that it would make their work easier if they could speak Italian to many of their customers. </anecdote>
Then do I mention Stefan. Both the coffee club and Stefan have had major influence on Queensland.
Possibly. I feel the biggest issue is the first part of the quote.

Assimilation does not lead to multiculturalism.
It does lead to a society with influences of many different cultures though. Isnt that multiculturalism?
But in order to assimilate you must be able to accept.
Too deep for AFF?

If we're going to get deep, at least lets be on the right page.
Multiculturalism is accepting many different cultures, not merely their influence, but their actual existence.
Assimilation is not about acceptance of other cultures, it means, regardless of what cultural background you have, you assimilate to one culture.
I would argue neither multiculturalism or assimilation exists in Australia.
Some people assimilate more than others. I'm sure we all know someone who migrated here years ago but still can't speak English. There are people who make life choices based on culture eg not marrying someone outside your culture. There's still Australian people out there who think like Ted Bullpitt (no, I said Bull-pitt) from the 1970's.

Perhaps you are right.I would argue neither multiculturalism or assimilation exists in Australia.
Perhaps you are right.
I think slightly differently.
The current lot of immigrants have no desire to assimilate. I have no idea why they chose Australia. Perhaps they should have immigrated to Japan, China or India.
Way too deep for AFF.
It's bleeping cold tonight. I've turned on the heating...only about the 3rd time this winter.
Sometimes I wonder what this country would have been like if the Japanese did take over the country as a result of WWII.
